Im wondering if any of you guys are running the edge insight or any other similar monitor in your new trucks? I got used to all the mechanical gauges i had in my old cummins and would like to be able to monitor this engine as well, but with a single electronic unit and not a clutter of gauges.
So my quesions are;
1. Does the insight work pretty well? I.e. is it accurate
2. What all can it read on these new trucks?
3. And, lastly, would it void the warranty in any way by using something like this? I know it doesnt program anything on the engine, it just monitors, but then again GM might still throw a fit if they know something electronic was plugged in.

I have one I brought over from my 08 although a couple things dont read but most do you can see what the truck computer is seeing. i.e. boost, torque slip what gear your in water temp, tranny temp soot mass oil pressure and much more. Plus you can set different warning levels which I like while towing the screen will turn yellow when you get to the first warning then turn red on the upper limit warnings

I have had warranty work done on my 08 at the start had to prove it was a gauge only but GM can see if you ever have had a chip on the truck in which case they will not even touch the truck.

Thanks Mike, thats exactly what I was looking for. I dont plan on putting a chip or tuner on this truck until the warranty runs out. I just dont want GM to think this thing is a tuner and not touch the truck.

I bought an Edge Insight this week, and it doesn't recognize the VIN. It seems to be hit and miss. I filed a claim with Edge, so they're working on it. Mine currently doesn't give any readouts that I'm needing (i.e. EGT, boost psi, trans temp, etc.). It's supposed to give you certain monitoring choices based on the VIN of the truck. Hopefully it doesn't take long to fix it!

thanks for the input trevor, i plan to order one pretty soon, so we'll see how it goes. Im sure a company like Edge can get it worked out pretty quick.

(btw, nice truck, where are you at in Texas?)

So what if I bought a Edge Evolution with the intention of leaving it at stock power levels for now and then cranking it up after the warranty is over? If I never changed the power levels then GM would see no changes on computer therefore not affecting the warranty. What if I changed the top speed limiter or changed the tire size or did a manual DPF regen? Does that fall under GMs policy "warranty ending" modifications?

That would fall under the policy, but it would depend on how your dealer is. They still have to prove that mod caused the problem...

The short answer is yes.

The short answer is yes.

I realize there is alot of technicalities but essentially if you don't actually change anything power/engine related then GM cannot void your warranty. Like removing your DPF shouldn't void your engine warranty since it wont' cause the engine to fail?

I realize alot of it has to do with what your dealer is comfortable with, I have talked to some dealers that won't fix a taillight if you modded your exhaust.

If you were to take off the DPF, you would in turn be making more horsepower/ have to make calibrations to the tun file etc, I can guarantee you it would void your warranty.
