Has anyone out there installed a banks power PDA? The reason I am asking is, do I have to install another temperature probe into my exhaust manifold? Also, where does all the info that the pda is reading come from? Does it plug into the trucks stock computer? Any information at all would be vary appreciated.

If they weren't using the Palm OS, I might consider it.

Big GMC,
The PowerPDA does not require the addition of another thermocouple unless. All the information that the PDA needs will come from the Six-Gun and the OBDII connector on the truck. Since you already have the Six-Gun, it will need to be reflashed to be compatible with the PDA, and you will need a new wire harness. The $699 price includes all of that as well as the PDA itself, the Banks operating software and the docking station that mounts the PDA in the vehicle. For those that are purchasing a Six-Gun for the first time with a PowerPDA, the price is actually $100 less since they don’t need a reflash or a replacement wire harness.

MrsSpoolin,
One of the reasons that we selected the Palm Tungsten was for its display. We needed one that would be bright enough in sunlight to be visible. We also needed a housing that would easily mount and be easily removable from a custom docking station. The Palm has a bright colorful display and has an exterior design that meets our needs. I have used an HP iPAQ with Windows OS in the past, and so far I have found the Palm OS to be just as easy to use with plenty of functionality.

Wait...for clarification, is the $700 figure for the whole six-gun setup including the "power PDA"? I think there's some confusion here...

Yup, you've told me the reasons before. Doesn't change the fact I think the palm OS is pure crap.

No that will be just for the palm not the 6 gun its self.

PeterT,
Any idea what happened to the $499 price?

PeterT,

That's my question. I ordered one back in June and was quoted a price of $499. It came to five somethin after shipping. Here we are a month later and the pricer has been jacked up another 40%. Frankly, I don't where the $700 comes from. Even with the reflash and the new harness, we're still only talking about a $200 PDA and a cradle.

I think the Power PDA would be an awesome feature to hook up to my truck, but there is no way that i am going to spend $700 for it. It wont do anything that I can't do right now, it just would look good and be really convenient. The palm that comes with it can be bought for $200, so I called banks to see if the program could be bought, it can, along with the cradle and wiring harness. The cost for that is $399 if I am not mistaken.

I too was quoted the $499 price about a month ago. I just called Banks and now they say it's $599 for the Tungsten E2, software, and cradle. When I asked about the $100 increase the answer was originally they were using a Tungsten Palm not the E2. Apparently they decided they needed the E2. I was also told that when you buy a bundle like the Hoss or 6 gun you no longer need the speed loader option or the gauges for that matter so they deduct the price of those. The speed loader software is built into the PDA. I know it doesn't make much of a difference but it does help slightly in the overall price.

Apparenly Banks pricing is not exactly set in stone

Jaime

Not to be a s(*t stirrer, but developing software like this takes a considerable financial investment on Banks behalf. I know because I manage custom software development projects for a living. Doing the math from the prices quoted leads me to believe the price on the software alone is in the $399 range. Given the size of the target market (diesel owners) VS what I'm guessing are the development costs (assuming no off the shelf solution was available) this is cheap. You also have to recognize the coolness factor in having a wireless connection to the Six Gun. Using IR technology to provide instant feedback from the ODBII interface with the Six Gun hookup has the geek in me all jazzed.

DieselDemon, how do you like the PDA? I am considering this route v Edge/Attitude with monitor.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know, still don't have it and don't expect it until OCtober 1st. Banks takes their sweet time developing products and making them right; which is a good thing. When I get the PDA I'll be sure to let you all know how it works.

I spoke with Banks today and they're shipping the LLY PDA's now. Apparently the price change was because Palm cranked up the price on them. I ordered mine early and got the $499 price. Also, if you get the PDA on a new six gun you don't need the gauges, the speed loader, or even the knob if you don't want to put it in. This lessons the price overall, it's still more money but i think it will be well worth it. They had one at the Off Road Expo a few weeks ago and it looks SO COOL!! By the way, has anybody seen the price on the Edge A2?.....$1200 and you still need the Juice to use it!!! I'll take my Banks every time!!

The best way to get the upgrade (if you already Have the Six-Gun) is to deal directly with GBE.In order to make this option affordable Banks lower the retail to the point that NO dealer discount is available. Now I cannot post prices on the DP,T&C will offer the full Package (Tuner,Docking sts,Banks power PDA) $150.00 to $200.00 less than retail.
