: Duramax Oil Capacity?
CrewCab 07-17-2005, 08:47 PM 1st oil change on my new Duramax CC @ 1000 miles.
How much oil does it hold?.. Seems like I read somewhere, 10 Quarts.
Can't seem to find that information now.
Any confirmation?
thanks!
Reineke 07-17-2005, 08:56 PM You're right, 10 Qts
bettered 07-17-2005, 09:13 PM Why at 1000 miles?
Rear End
Engine Oil
Transmission Filter
I could probably do it all myself for about $60, but why? What are the COMPELLING reasons?
I know it won't do any harm... except to my pocketbook, and I know some will say it's cheap insurance, but I try to buy insurance only to cover identifiable / catastrophic risks. What are they?
If I buy the GM extended warrantee, they have the risk, at least for a while..
Thanks all,
Ed B
TheBac 07-17-2005, 10:49 PM Flushs out a lot of the crud from the motor/trans that the factory may not have.
Just make sure to use the proper oil. I caught a guy on my route just before he started to put regular old 10W30 in his.

dmax lover 07-18-2005, 12:10 AM Oil analysis has shown extremely high silicon content at the first oil change - this is true for all trucks - look over on the lb7 forum for details. This is from sand that is left over from the casting of the block. You change the oil at 500 or 1000 miles to flush it out.
There is a little "crud" in the tranny as well - which is why allison recommends changing the spin-on tranny filter at the first service (first oil change).
Me, I am kinda nuts - so I change out all my fluids after break-in. I will probably wait until 5k miles to flush out the differentials...

This has been covered before, you should do a search.
jjcgolf72 07-26-2005, 01:55 PM Dealer just charged me $64 for lube, oil (11 quarts),filter and complete tire rotation. I thought that was a fair price. The rotation cost $22 of the $64.
briano 07-26-2005, 02:32 PM this info is in your manual as well along with all the other capacities.
TxChristopher 07-27-2005, 09:02 AM The guy was asking about the oil capacity of the truck. The opinions seem to fly all the time and are used to spank people that post here.
Maybe he wants to change his oil every 1,000 miles for his own peace of mind. Maybe he has stock in an oil company. Maybe he has nothing better to do. But I am pretty sure he wasn't looking to get jumped or questioned about it.

XR-Freak 07-27-2005, 09:48 AM :Whoa:  Too funny Tx. Did you forget to drink your coffee this morning? Or did your sprinklers soak your truck again?
I'm just playin bro. You started my day off with a laugh
UTK country 07-27-2005, 09:55 AM I enjoyed it.
killerbee 07-27-2005, 09:57 AM Of course Mr Chris, haven't you heard. Everything I know, I have you to credit for. But my life's ambition is to have an original idea. I may have to sever ties if I am to grow, LOL.
TxChristopher 07-27-2005, 10:03 AM Hey, theres an idea! I could maybe cut down on the washin some if the sprinklers partially hit the truck. Innovation in action! :ro)
Don't drink coffee, sorry. Can't stand the bitter taste it leaves behind. -:t It's very similar to some of the posts that show up here, I generally chew them up and spit them out the same!

IRA51 07-27-2005, 04:43 PM So if it's 10 quarts ,how can the dealer charge (jjcgolf72) for 11 quarts ?

Hmmmmm maybe they put one in the filter. Now see, GM really does go 110% for its customers! :D
Or was that they go after 110% of their customers money?
One of those.....

jjcgolf72 07-28-2005, 11:35 AM Since I do not persoally change the trucks oil I can only go by the dealers info. The manual shows 10 but when I called and questioned the service writer he said the oil filter hold 1 or almost one. But either way my oil is full and not over full plus the price for the change was fair.
jwfab1 07-28-2005, 10:40 PM I added 10 qts. and mine seems to be about a qt. off, on the dipstick. So maybe the filter does hold almost a qt.
