Do you load the bike in the back of your truck when you travel with the camper? If so, what ramp system do you have? I have a Honda Goldwing & am thinking of switching from my pickup camper to a bumper pull trailer. My only reservation is loading a large bike at that height. Any input you have would be appreciated.

No, I don't....only because Lori won't go anywhere near it. I have seen different types of carriers, some go on the back bumper of truck, then hook up camper behind that. Some are made to go on the backs of RV, but I wouldn't trust the bouncing at all. Also, I have a short bed, and I don't think I could close the tailgate with the bike in it. I have an open trailer I can use to haul the bike, but haven't had the need yet.

I'd do a google search on motorcycle carriers, you could likely find one that suits your needs. Some are even electric, and tilt down....so you just drive up the little track, and then it raises it for you. In my state, and some others, you can pull a trailer behind a trailer. I.E., truck, camper, then open/closed trailer for bikes and other toys. But not all states allow this. Hope this helps.

ElephantNest,

I am eyeing a Yamaha V-Star Silverado 1100, the factory accessories on that bike fit my style perfectly...plus I think the name is pretty darn cool!!! How do you like the 1100?

I love it, though it lacks a bit of power. I plan on doing a few simple mods to it and it should increase significantly. Like eliminating the AIS (air intake system), and taking off the governor and rev limiter. It's got plenty of power from light to light, but on the interstate it could use a little pep. I may even get some pipes, but I really enjoy the stock, quieter sound.

I looked at the Silverados, and really liked them, they had some of the features I loved about the V-Star Classic, like the floorboards and wide seat. I think comfort was the deciding factor for me, if I remember correctly. My Classic feels like I'm sitting on my couch when I ride. lol

On Edit: Hmmm, are you a long lost brother? You like GM trucks, RV's, motorcycles; my style even, and LSU?! Man, I gotta have a beer with you some time. lol

The seats are one of the biggest complaints I've read about. Nothing a quick order to Mustang for new seats couldn't take care off!!

Enjoy the toys!!!

You could always trade in the RV for a SUT, Toybox. That way you can load the toys in back and haul a$$ down the road.

MaxRock,
I've had many friends that have had V-Star's with little to no complaints. The power thing is solved with an exhaust (loud pipes save lives) different air cleaner and by-passing the AIR system. BUT, most of them traded up to the Roadstar after a few years- mine is bigger than your's syndrome):h - so finding a good used V-Star is easy (already modified too).
Riverdog,
If you are going to take the bike(s) with you, a toy hauler is the way to go. I love mine (with or without toys loaded), they cost a little more than normal TTs but it is worth it and they hold there value 10x better than a normal trailer. Transporting a Goldwing is hard, there are so many farings in the way, tie down areas are hard to come by. Having many tiedown locations in a trailer is easier than in a truck, plus your loading ramp is going to be shorter and an entire platform.:cool2:

MaxRock I think they are some of the best bikes around. My first bike was a V-star 650 Classic, I outgrew that one and went with a Yamaha Warrior. I was going to go with an 1100 Custom but since my bud had one I figured I would step it up a notch like Rttoys said I wanted bigger.

Rttoys you are right about toy-haulers. most of the ones we get in at work turn over fairly quickly and the sellers (we are a consignment dealer) tend to get the $$ they want.

ElephantNest good choice of toys.oh and those Tigers aren't bad either..jk \m/ Oh tell me you have a passion for LS1 powered vehicles and you and I will have to have a beer :ro)

Sweeeeet! Very nice looking ride.

I almost bought a Camaro with a LS1 stuck in it. Wow, did it sound good! But I had just gotten the bike, and I figured if I got one more thing that Lori wouldn't care about, I'd be in the dog house for a loooong time. She didn't even know I was buying the bike, just came home with it one day. So, if I would have bought the Camaro, I'd most likely have to live in it.

blkbeaz28,
I had a '96 Trans Am WS6 (highly modified) that would haul Censored . I know it is an LT1 not an LS1 but is was fast in it's day. I sold it when I got into bikes, just can't beat the speed of a 130rwhp crotch rocket:ro) . I see your in Sugar Land, I like to cruise on my V-Max (another bike I have)whenever possible, maybe we can head out sometime and chat over a frosty beverage..:cool2:

That is what the travel trailer is for. You could live in that.... Jk

I won't knock an LT1 I just prefer the LS1. I love the V-Max. My bud was very persistent that I get one but I prefer the drag bike look that a Warrior has. I wish that it was as quick as that little 4-banger but oh well. Oh and we can sertainly do that I am always up for a good ride.
