Just joined so bare with me. I have a 03 dura/al with 56000, ext cab, long box. Oil gauge just bottoms out while driving and warning chims ring. still got pressue, just will not read on gauge. Dealer wants to replace sending unit for $500. Guy at work had same problem, said there was a recall to replace wire harness, yet my dealer claims no knowledge, Any help for a rookie?

How do you know you still have pressure when guage is at 0 ?

I had the samething happening to mine and they changed the sending unit and that worked for a while then it came back and they replaced it again and then it went away for a while.

Or it could be a bad guage cluster.

500 is a bit much, the sending unit is cheap and it's not too hard to change, it's down by the oil filter I believe, I would change it myself before giving them 500.

I'm not sure about the oil pressure sending unit ont the Dmax. I did replace a bad sending unit on my 2.5L Ranger for $8 at Napa. It was a little hard to access but can't imagine paying $500 even on a late model diesel V8.

My oil pressure gauge is about 30 degrees past 80PSI. Sometimes at idle it shows the proper amount ( 30-35PSI). I tried hooking up a scan tool, but apparently it the PCM/ECM could care less about oil pressure. I used a Genisys OTC scan tool (Pathfinder 2003).

If its the sending unit wouldn't it be covered by the 100,00 mi. warr.? Its on the engine.

I looked up the information in All Data today. The sending unit is only connected to the Instrument Cluster. Does anyone know where the sending unit is located. The All Data picture looks like greek to me. I'd like to take an ohm meter and check it to be sure.

Mine did the same thing and they changed the computer and cured it.

I believe the sending unit is just behind the power steering pump to the top of the oil filter and a little bit forward. Just changed a water pump and was working in that area and had to work around it. Would be pretty easy to change.

$500 is crazy. I replaced mine this spring for the total price of $32. NAPA auto parts is were I purchased it. It is located exactly were MaxOD says. Take a look at your new sending unit to get a visual so you know what to look for. Good luck!

Sh!t... now my "Check Eng Oil Level" light is on. I checked the oil and it's fine. WTF! Any clues??

I took some pictures of the cluster. Almost like a bad ground or something. I'm going to pull the connectors off the sensors tomorrow and see what happens... Time to trade?! Just priced a Dodge with employee pricing... under $35k... not too bad :) Now to figure out if I'm just joking around!!

I just programmed the truck back to stock with the Predator. The Eng Oil level light went out. I'll see how this works. Still didn't fix the oil pressure gauge.

I pulled the plug for the sending unit and noticed it had been cut in two at some point and spliced back together! But the connection looked good. Once unplugged the gauge did nothing. Tried grounding it out, still nothing. It's got to be the cluster.

The damn "check eng oil level" light came back on. I may change the oil (changed it 2k ago) just to make sure there is enough oil. Definitely strange.
