does anybody know if it would be possible to do a centermount turbo on a 6.5 truck engine? i was wondering cause it seems like this way with both manifolds feeding into the turbo it could increase power somewhat

vans and i believe hummers used a center mount. IIRC they were rated better for lag

Just to clearify, all eight cylinders feed the charger even in the side mount application. There is, however, flow and reduced lag benefits offered from center mounting.

RHD vehicles too. There was a member from Australia, IIRC, that had an RHD 'Burb with a center mount charger.

well i would prefer better flow and reduced lag since im gonna be towing, but i was also wondering if it can be done it would be possible to use an aftermarket turbo, like the A team turbo

you see them on ebay every once in a while, cheap cuz they don't interchange parts of what most people have. IIRC, there may have been a difference on the heads in the way the intake bolted

you would have to custom build the manifolds then. the stock centermount turbo mounts differently and i don't believe a standard truck turbo or off brand will just bolt into a van/ center mount set up

The blocks are a little different on the center mount turbo engines..... The turbo won't clear the firewall on a pick-up with out quite a bit of modification...... The blocks for the center mounts are machined for the oil feed/drain for the turbo is right under the turbo....

Van and hummer heads have the intake manifold bolts at a different angle than truck heads.
I tried finding the thread on that australlian sub a while back but couldn't find it.

My suburban was imported into Australia by GM. Its fitted with a center turbo, probably because the side turbo gets in the way of the steering box (right hand drive).
Trouble is, the turbo is mounted right at the back, against the firewall and into the transmission tunnel. You can't even see it from under the hood. Its surrounded by heat shields so it won't cook anything. Too bad if anything goes wrong with it. I think it will be an engine-out job, just to be able to see anything.
I can't compare it with a side turbo as I've never driven one. It still has some noticable lag, but not of much concern.
