My friend has a 2003 with the California Emissions (so gay!) and it is have the hard starting/extended cranking issues. I have done a lot of research on here about this and so far this is waht we have. It cranks about twice as long as it should and sometimes more in summer temps here in Ohio and flat won't start unless you plug it in during winter. Sometimes just after it starts, it wil lope for a second or two or even die. It has intake, ehaust, EFI-Live 110 HP tune. We have changed the fuel filter, batteries are good, just re-built the filter head with Dmax Store kit, and tried to pressurize the tank with the valve stem/gas cap trick. So far can't seem to find anything? You guys that have had success pressurizing your fuel tanks, how exactly do you do it once the gas cap has been made and installed? We kept losing pressure out of the vent on the top of the tank? It would build up to 12psi but bleed off over maybe 15 seconds? Our next step is to verify the CP3 with the clear tube. I know injectors could still be on the list also but ahve read on here that even ones that are within specs can be bad?? We were hoping to pressurize the tank and find a leak... Thanks in advance for all your help!

Mine had the same hard starting symptoms and it went to the dealer and had the injector test done and all 8 injectors were changed under the warranty.

mine was hard to start once it warmed up. The dealer replaced the injectors under warranty and now it is starting fine cold and hot.

I just got my truck back from having the injectors replaced (Warranty). It was fine starting cold but once the engine reached operating temps it was VERY hard to start. I'd also see white smoke if I jumped on it, but no loss of power. Fuel was present in the oil.
IMHO you should save yourself some time and rule out the injectors first. . . Since they are so problematic. . .:)

Hey guy's thanks for all the info Dirty D is helping me on my truck. Just to add some other stuff to the list i do not have fuel in the oil, white smoke or a loss of power. Everything seems to be fine once it starts. I think we are both leaning towards injectors but for obvious reasons want to rule out everything else first. If any one has any other ideas we are open. I have also been told maybe a glow plug controller but it has been on back order for a while so have not been able to try that yet. Thanks for any other info in advance!
