: PPE and Van Aaken
kkhamil23 07-17-2005, 12:16 AM I have looked through all the vendors and is there anyone that sells both the PPE Hot Xcelerator and the VA? Truck will be getting some MAJOR mods at the end of Aug and this is going to be the base of it all. Thanks for the help.
kkhamil23 07-17-2005, 03:41 PM So is there no one that wants to sell both at once? Come on this is an easy sell for you.
dpower 07-17-2005, 04:11 PM Better look into a clutch first cause the stocker will definitely not handle the power of that stack. On edit: I see you have a clutch...make sure that single can handle 470'ish hp (thats with fuel only from the boxes).....also did it come with a flywheel...if not your gonna need one. I would personally trade that single for a double disc especially if your gonna use nitrous, propane etc.
kkhamil23 07-17-2005, 08:05 PM When I spoke with Craig he said that the single will hold just as much as the street dual disc. Just have to watch how I catch the gears. Just to let you in on what I plan on doing, well Super Diesel will be getting about $1700. Tie rod sleeves, nitrous kit, manifold, lift pump and pressure block. Then I will be getting the overhead gauge mount, gauges, and of course the PPE and Van Aaken. So hopefully this thing will rock when I get it finished in Sept. I will be on the prowl here in Anchorage when it is all done.
GMC2500HD 07-17-2005, 08:10 PM Just FYI, from everything I have read the VA does not stack well...
Max Power 07-17-2005, 08:59 PM Actually I am under the impression that the VA for the LLY stacks very well.
dpower 07-17-2005, 09:15 PM Just FYI, from everything I have read the VA does not stack well...
For the lly it stacks extremely well. Either with the predator or the ppe hot xcellerator.
GMC2500HD 07-17-2005, 10:56 PM Ah, well I was told that for the LB7 it did not do so well. Wonder why?? Have to look into that before I sell my VA box..
kkhamil23 07-17-2005, 11:38 PM Reading somewhere that someone did that stack is why I was going with it. I was wanting the TTS but I have little to no patience and this will be about the same price.
DSTRBD 07-18-2005, 10:03 AM We sell the PPE boxes, but not the VA's. PPE+J/A = VERY good running stack though.
Mark Craig 07-18-2005, 10:39 AM kkhamil23,
While we don't sell any of the PPE stuff we do sell the predator and van Aaken products. WE chose these manufacturers as the y stack is verrrry good as members will tell you and the options on the Predator are way beyong what the PPE has available etc. Give us a call if you have any questions.

gunbunny 07-18-2005, 01:59 PM What options does the Predator have that the PPE Hot LLY doesn't have? And vice versa? From what I have read on this forum the best stack available for the LLY is the PPE and Van Aaken.
coalbucket1 07-18-2005, 02:06 PM Ah, well I was told that for the LB7 it did not do so well. Wonder why?? Have to look into that before I sell my VA box..
A smartbox E and the Hot Xclerator with timing looped on a LB7 stacks very well. I ran the combo together and it kicked arse:ro)

Unless there is a "new" Predator out that I'm not aware of, the PPE Hot LLY is a more powerful tune by a significant amount.
kkhamil23 07-18-2005, 09:45 PM McRat, since you are the resident LLY expert it appears. What do you think of the setup that I am trying to build up here. I know that there are many variables but what kind of times should I be able to muster out of this? This is of course with you driving, but this is the 6 speed. Thanks

My limited experience with turbo manual transmission vehicles isn't going to be a lot of help.
Two big problems:
Getting boost off the line - You cannot stall effectively as an automatic.
Losing boost on the shift - Hard to keep boost up during a shift, and from what I understand, powershifting (not lifting) a ZF6 is not a good thing.
Not sure how much those two will kill your ET's.

What is a significant amount? $880 is a lot of money for 20hp if I already have the Predator
mwgasman 07-18-2005, 10:54 PM I can put propane (100hp) on for that much

McRat is correct. There is no way to launch with boost. You can lower the lift pump and N2O psi to kick off at lower than what is safe for allison. If you have a rev limit rmoved and a dual disc you can launch reasonably quickly at 3rd or maybe even at 4th gear (4hi). BD sells a blow-off valve that would help keep the turbo spooling between shifts and boost come up faster. Don't know of anyone who has used this on this site. powershiftin (without clutch use?) bad for tranny and with fast clutch shiftin will have an impact on the clutch plate but the rest should hold ok.

Yep. The faster you want to go, the faster your wallet empties. :D

Powershifting is when you do not lift the throttle for shifting. Keep it matted, stab the clutch to the floor as you pull HARD on the shifter. I have not tried powershifting a ZF trans.

ok. I understand. I have tried this several times but shiftin is allways tough. Esp from 3rd to 4th. The challnge is not so much the clutch as the zf6 sync (or lack ther of on the upper gears. A shorter shifter would help, some.
coalbucket1 07-19-2005, 02:42 PM It can be done, but it aint pretty:eek: Dont ask I have been there and done that):h
kkhamil23 07-19-2005, 08:47 PM Last question is, can the PPE check balance rates of the injectors? I seen that it can clear codes but is that it? Thanks for all the help.
