Pulled down at the Heart of Illinois Fair last night and the top three trucks were Duramaxes in the stock class. And the top two trucks were tuned by Nick (Duramaxtuner) and I think the third place truck was also tuned by Nick. I ended up second. The top three trucks were all withing a foot or two of each other.

Yeah I have learned to drive around it for now. I just can't wait for the tuning to come out for them and maybe I can start coming out of the hole quicker and get my speed up faster.

Yeah that was me in cambridge. I won that pull. And no built trans still running the stock trans for now.

Just running nick's big tune. O and yeah I do have a lift pump. I wouldn't pull without one. I wouldn't want to get about 1/2 or 3/4 of the way down the track and run out of fuel.

Yea your truck is awesome. You made us duramax guys happy with the win. Im about ready to have Nick tune mine I was just nervous with only having a stock trans. He does some awesome work. Hope to see you pullin again soon.

Nick does good work, you'll be happy with his tuning. Just don't run a big tune on the street without a built trans.

What are you running for a lift pump?

Airdog 150 but if i did it again I would go with the airdog II or maybe something else.

Brandon29

I don't like the return line in the filler neck, which isn't a huge deal. The first time driving it after install I had a quarter tank issue. And the one thing that pissed me off the most is the cheap ass fitting that goes onto the line that runs to the engine. I put everything back together and ran it for a day and that fitting starting leaking. I ended up removing the bed and dropping the tank to fix the problem because on regular cabs you can't get to the line to see what u r doing without dropping the tank.

I mean its not a bad pump and I don't care if it is loud. At least I know its running if I can hear it. I just don't like that fitting and draw straw. I think in the Airdog II you don't have to worry about 1/4 tank issues cause it uses the stock pickup.

Do you have to run a lift pump to run one of Nick's big tunes? I have a pull tomorrow night(hopefully the rain stays away) and I'm hoping to run his big tune. I don't have a lift pump yet though. Is the truck just going to fall on it's face?

This was my first pull with my LMM took 4th place:) 1.5' behind Eric Merchant.

I am running Nick's 420whp tune and a stock trans with a trans-go jr. Very impressed with the power. I run a Fass150/150 pump which I installed right before this pull.

I think I could have been in the top 3 if I had better tires. I was running the stock 265/70/17 Duravis' @ 25psi front and 57psi rear.

Im thiniking your going to be running out of fuel. How does it do on the street?

Better figure out that defuel or get ready to buy rear end parts. My brother had to before he traded his in. Some LMMs have even given up and gone to a 3rd gear start.

Are u running out of fuel on the street in the higher rpms with the big tune? If so you probably will pulling too.

I am working on that but I don't think I can do anything until I am able to tune the trans in my 09.

Does it de-fuel in 4lo no matter what?

I know it doesn't at the drag strip or on the street. I thought it was an un-learned shift but after the "jolt" it took off like a raped ape.

Can't tune an '09 TCM yet. Sorry fellas. Walk it out at 3/4 throttle until it hits third and then let it rip.

Earlier TCM's can be tuned to resolve this type of behavior.

Around town it seems fine. I haven't noticed anything or thrown any codes. Higher rpm I can't really comment on. I haven't gotten on it much above highway speed(2000K RPM) At that speed I've never had a problem.

It was fine street or strip. Tune ran great. Just never could keep it from defueling in low range even with the various TCM tuning. This was an 07.5 truck.

Nick, have you figured out the earlier trucks?

Yep, that looks familiar. Maybe I will try Nicks 3/4 throttle idea next time.

Here is another question:

Could you get the truck into 3rd gear with stock power so the de-fuel would not be so bad and then crank it up to the "big tune" with a DSP-5 switch?

vortecfcar
07-19-2010, 12:48 PM
Yes, you can do that - but it seems like bit too much fiddling while trying to drive. Try my suggestion first, I think you'll be surprised how smooth it is if you just ease up on the throttle a bit at first.

I'm running Nick's tune also. Runs great, I couldn't get the shifting figured out. it isn't a new problem, but is there a real fix yet? I still think it's an EFI Live issue.
