Does anyone know any manufacture making 5inch exhaust for the lly dmax? Wondering the benifit or pros and cons going 5inch instead of 4inch? lower egts, more turbo lag, etc?

There is an exhaust forum - suggest you look over there. BTW - from what I read - 5" doesn't gain you anything over 4". MBRP seems to have good reviews.

dmax500hp,

dmaxlover is right no real benefit till you pass 500 RWHP! The 5 inch systems tend to be loud, great if you like loud, but otherwise its a looks thing. The 4 inch MBRP systems we sell do all you'll need and keep the volume down too. They are available in aluminized, 409 and 304 stainless as well as in singles and duals. We do have 5 inch aluminized systems too if you need that! Call us we are MBRP's largest WD and have it in stock and will be glad to help you with any questions etc.

I've got the Summit 5". I don't think it is too loud at all, and it doesn't drone.

Decent price, and fairly easy intall.

I'll have to hook up with you and check your exhasut out - I'm debating on what to get for mine and have been seriously considering the Summit 5"...

I like my summit 5" and it sounds good.

Does anyone offer a stainless 5" system?? It looks like the MBRP system as well as the summint are 4" for a while then transition to 5". I realize the downpipe is smaller but can't it be 5" from the band clamp back??

Also, can these aluminized systems be Jet Hot coated, and if so what would the cost be. Again it is probably cheaper to go with 304SS but if no one offers the 5" in SS what other options are there. I just like the look of a real 5" system, but like the polished stainless look also.

You like the look of a real 5" system? Ok.

Clearances are already fairly tight with the band clamp back 4" running past the transmission lines and crossmember... There's probably no benefit to a full 5" system---the 5" tailpipe is where it's at...lookswise.

Yes, you can Jet Hot coat the aluminum system --- $70-90 for mufflers and $25 per foot for the pipe in the sterling silver finish.

I Have 5" Duals for looks and I also plan on running at about 650HP (EDGE & Bullydog stack) There isnt any drone and it isnt all that loud. There is a pretty good amount of turbo whistle at low rpms (nothing like a PSD) I am happy with it.

I meant got pics and I like your thinking about the stainless 5", Forced Induction. I'd like the same thing or better protected than aluminized one.

You'll need a lot more than that stack for 650hp.

Maybe mid 400's, unless u are adding propane+N2O.

Here is my logic, 310HP (stock) 150HP (EDGE) 150HP (Bully Dog) 12HP (Volant intake)
10HP (5" exhaust) So that puts me at approx. 630HP Then I plan to turn the wastegate screw on my turbo to reach about 30psi...what do you think?? am I right, wrong what?? Please give me feedback. Thanks All

You don't happen to own a 150hp harly/cruiser too do you?:rotflmao:
Just because some one tells you that some thing makes xxxhp doesn't mean it really does. Also who cares what your truck makes at the spark plugs. (hp at spark plugs = exadgerated crank hp) It is how much power it makes at the wheels that counts. I have had engines built for street bikes that were claimed to make 180-190hp and only made 165hp. That is why you don't believe what the place that is selling the product to you tells you. You need to dyno it yourself and have it tuned. Try to see what others have been getting on the dyno to see about what you should have.
Had a great one in the shop I dyno my bike and get all the work/tunning done at. Guy pulls up on his chopper and keeps going off about all the big bore, carb, head work that he has done to his chopper. Asks what all the jap crap makes. Tell him all the new 1000cc sport bikes make around 150hp. He laughs and says his will make over 180hp. Dyno operator trys to keep a strait face. The most they have every dynoed a harly/chopper is 98hp. V-rods are really good stock. A little over 100hp and 109hp or so tuned with a good exhaust. I think they said he made 96hp wich is really good, but owner was a little pissed.
Don't be that harly owner. Dont expect to make 650hp and only make 400 or so.

u got an 03 so 300 stock, 240's at the wheels.

The stack on adds maybe 20-30 hp on the second box and hot juice goes 150 or more.

The stock air filter flows better cleaner air than most aftermarket so 0hp gain.

240+150+30= 420rwhp.

N2o Isn't going to give you 230rwhp...and as was said, you're adding hp claims like a ricer would--it doesn't work that way...it's cumulative. Either way, 600hp+ is a whole 'nother ballgame (who cares about "hp" anyway? Tq is where it's at) and will require substantially more money to achieve (and reliably put to the ground).

More like 1 big program (extreme) and an ATS 5000 blower would be a good start, then some 40% over sticks and bigger cp3.

So I shouldnt worry about the horse power aspect, build off of the torque ratings?
Thanks all

For a cheap fix get a tranny then find a 215 quad and stack w/ hot juice should get into the high 400's rwhp.

There's a guy on here pulling that was running this stack and doing real good also mid 12's w/o N2O.

What do u want to do w/ the truck?
play toy or work?

Here are my plans: Stop wastegate from opening, Stack EDGE with something powerful, tranny upgrade, NOS, and maby prophane and meth.
I want a really fast truck that beats everything out on the road...and still be able to pull trailer ect.
Thanks

...Even with 1500ft lb's, you're not going to be able to beat quick cars...and with the mods to make 1500 ft lb's work, it's probably going to suck at towing.

Dmax05
07-25-2005, 01:25 PM
Dont you want more torque when you tow? Isnt torque what helps pull/tow? I am new at this so sorry if i am asking stupid questions.

ratlover
07-25-2005, 02:52 PM
ok, I know your new, I'm not trying to be an ass I'm just going to be blunt. Sorry to sound harsh and like an ass but this is the way it is......

1. NOS is a brand name not a substance. If you say your putting NOS on something anyone thats into cars will laugh at you. I catch myself saying it at times becasue my friends refuse to call it what it is and I instantly want to shoot myself and lose 2 tenths of my ETs the next time I go to the track. N2O, nitrous, squeze, spray, turbo in a bottle, bottle fed, giggle gas, laughing gas, nitrous oxide, funny fumes, juice, on the bottle, the **** are all acceptable. I'm sure I missed a few. Also FYI if you use nitro as a way of saying n2o you will also get laughed at.

2a. When stacking programs you dont get the full HP outa the second box, you just get a handfull. For instance the quadzilla/juice stack. 215+the 150 that the juice is rated at(hot juice is underrated, its actually closer to 180 than 150) Should put you close to the mid 400's not the 600 that you would get by adding the numbers together.

2b. Dont ad your supposed gains together for what you are claiming. This will also result in people laughing at you. Claim what your truck has dynoed and was actually able to back up, claim track times. Note: sometimes dyno's can freak out or so can the track and you will get wierd readings. If you claim some ungodly # people will again laugh at you even if have a peaice of paper to back it up. Its about being able to go just about anywere and back up your #'s. I think I have a slip showing a 5 sec 1/8 mile time but I aint going to claim it.

3. A 12 second 1/4 mile is not fast. Yes you may be faster than lotsa other stuff including alot of "fast" cars with owners that think they are hot ****. I drive a truck that has been in the high 11's and guess what? ITS NOT FAST! There will always be something faster and high 11's aint **** on the street! If you act like hot **** with a 12 second ride be prepared to have you ass handed to you and then(drum roll please) PEOPLE WILL LAUGH AT YOU!

4 HP is a mathmetical equation derived from how much torque you make at what RPM. Pretty much any 500hp duramax will make about the same torque as any other one. The torque curve may look a bit different but a stock duramax will pull anything a PU truck has any buisness towing at a safe speed.

5. Dont be afraid to ask questions! Thats how we learn. Another way to learn all kinds of stuff is to just sit back and listen! Great thing about this place and the internet in general is you can scroll back and look at conversations that happened months ago.

6. There is no way to adjust the factory wastgate. Do some reading in the post started last week talking about WG bleed lines and other ways to fool the wastegate. You can buy aftermarket WG's and adjust them. Making your wastegate stay closed all the time will blow your turbo the F up! Dont say we didnt warn you. Ask got juice about that. We still laugh at him about that! Seeing a pattern here???

7. If you want to go over 340hp ish to the rear wheels you WILL NEED A MODIFIED TRANS. If you go over that a few times and its fine and you think you are ok dont ask us what to do about your trans all of a sudden limping. We will tell you we told you so and we will give you Mike L.s number

Seriously I'm not trying to be a ****, it definatly sounds that way but I cant help it, I just cant sugar coat it for ya. Hang around here and enjoy yourself. :)

I think I am gonna cry! lol
I call it NOS becuase that is the company I plan to go through when I order N2O for my truck and my raptor quad.
I am definatly going to get a better tranny.
Thanks for clearing it up for me.

No biggy;) calling it NOS is just a pet peeve of mine I think. Nitrous Oxide Sytems(nos;) ) is a pretty good company. I like superdiesels stuff from what I have seen of it though ;)

My friend got me hooked with nitrous, He has it on his Artic cat "Big Cat" snowmobile, he has a nitrous feed on it and he is putting it on his Yamaha raptor as we speak...I think I might have to do the same to my Raptor.
I will check into superdiesels stuff, Thanks again.
