I am working on a 2005 Chevy C4500 stake truck with a 6.6 duramax diesel .

My question is:
Has there been any problems with the turbos leaking coolant (antifreeze) into the exhaust and if so, can it be repaired with a simple gasket/seal kit or does it require a new turbo unit?

The vehicle was brought to my shop for extreme smoke coming from the exhaust. It is definately coolant coming from the exhaust. The vehicle runs excellant wich makes me want to rule out a possable cracked head or blown head gasket. I know that this particular model has a liquid cooled turbo and have been asking around to find out if that had been a known problem in these vehicles.

I'd just like to know something before completely dissmantling this gentlemans engine.

Thanks!

I do not think the turbo is water cooled. But the EGR valve has a cooler attached to it. Passenger side of engine near turbo.
To check if the heads have a leak. Feel the upper radiator hose when engine has cooled. If it is hard, chances are high that engine has a bad head gasket.

The turbo is liquid cooled, I know that for a fact, i changed my turbo this winter.

Injectors? But then the truck would be running rough.. But its blowing out white smoke, hmm sounds like a head gasket..

Thanks for your replies!

After bypassing the coolant lines and pressurizing the system, I found coolant to flow out the exhast. Hard to belive it has a craked head or blown gasket as good as it ran.

Had to break the news to the owner...:S

Thanks again!
