: pro comp xterrain tires
LarryJewell 07-16-2005, 08:30 AM Are the procomp 35x12.5x17 abnormally load tires on the highway or could it be the very uneven wear pattern on the two back tires accounting for all the noise. I bought 4 used tires off of ebay and 2 of them have a very weird wear pattern , lots of high and low spots. I was gonna replace the 2 bad tires, but I'm afraid that I will still have way too much road noise. Is anybody runing these tires and do they seem to be load or quiet.
LarryJewell 07-16-2005, 08:31 AM I meant to say loud tires in the above thread.

_nar_ 07-17-2005, 01:11 PM I would say the odd pattern means the person that had them before needed an alignment and never got it. That would make them noisy for sure. I don't think they are a terribly noisy tire otherwise. Directional tires like them and claws seem quieter than a normal mud terrain tire. Also it depends what you think is noisy.

snuffysmith 07-20-2005, 12:04 PM i had them ( X's ) on my Z71 for about 3 months... i hated them. they were loud and had to rotate them alot ( front end was true )and would hydroplane easy. they have such wide knobs that they are prone to cupping faster that most tires. i ditched them and got my MTR's. MTR's are the best tires i ever had, not one problem
Deadeye 07-20-2005, 03:37 PM duramaxedout has them and hates them. I hate anything from procrap and 4wheelpiss.
WhippledHD 07-20-2005, 04:46 PM I had those exact tires on my last 2500HD w/6.0L and they sucked. Wouldn't saty balanced, wore funny, and very loud. Never again. The 37 Xterrains are a completely different compound and tire design and are half way decent tires but all the other sizes are crap!!!
i like them got 40000 out of my first set and theres still enough left to make a good pulling tire, had the goodyear mtrs and they only lasted 18000 and cupped badly even after rotating them every 3000 or so and couldn't keep them balanced, the xterrains never cuped on me and have what i would say is reasonable road noise I never pulled with the mtrs and barely abused them they were good offroad and thats it, the xterrains suck on icy roads or with a moderate snowcovering work good in deep powder. if they are cuped they need replaced.

It depends on what you define as "loud". They're the quietest and best riding actual "off-road" tires (generic mud terrains don't count) I've ever seen. Either it is those two tires, or you just need less agressive tires.

I do agree with this, but the tires are only "pro-comp" in name.

. . .and manufacturing specs pro-crap contracted to have made . . . just because a real tire company made them doesn't mean they same quality as other tires they make.
braxton357 07-22-2005, 03:15 PM Well yeah...it pretty much does. Just because pro-comp sell ****ty suspension lifts/etc doesn't mean that they sell ****ty re-badged tires. Just like people saying "rancho shocks are a bazillion times better than pro comp or monroe shocks!!1." They're all built by tenneco and the rancho/pro-comps are the same with different colors...
