Does anybody know if 295/70/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers will fit a 2007 (NNBS) Silverado 2500HD Duramax/Allison? The truck is stock height...no lift and no leveling kit.
I'm trying to decide if I should swap my 285/70/17 Goodyear Duratracs onto my son's Avalanche and put his Terra Grapplers on mine. I do 80% of my driving on the highway and the Duratracs are too loud/aggressive for my taste.
The 285/70/17 Duratracs rubbed a lot so we trimmed where it rubbed. Using a tape measure the Terra Grapplers and Duratracs seem to be exactly the same size but the online specs show the 295's being 33.2" tall and 12.1" wide while the 285's are 32.8" tall and 11.5" wide. Does anybody know if the width is measured at the contact patch with the ground or at the widest part? The two tires seem exactly the same size in person.
Thanks for any help! I really appreciate it.

What's the difference in wheel width? Both stock wheels? The reason I ask, wider wheels can make a tire be different heights/widths. If you read the specs on the net for those tires, there is a range of wheel widths, with one width being the one the measurements are taken from due to it being the recommended one. I've got 295's, but on aftermarket rims, and there is no way they would have fit on my wheels without trimming/turning the bars up a little. On the correct offset/backspacing/width wheel, yes, I've seen 35's fit. So it just depends on the answers to the above questions. ;) Chris

Thanks for the reply.
I have H2 wheels on my 2500. My son has the stock 17" Z71 Avalanche wheels on his truck.
The H2 wheels are 8.5" wide while the Avalanche wheels are 7" wide. So you think that if we put the 295's on the H2 wheels they would sit wider than they do on the Avalanche wheels?
The 295's rub minimally on the Avalanche, and it's only on the back tires.

Since your wheels are wider, the tires will be a little wider, but also a little shorter compared to the 7" wide wheel. It'll be a tradeoff, but I think it will work. The extra width will come more from the sidewalls being further apart than on the narrower rim. Chris

So the 295's would be shorter on the H2 wheels than they are on the Avalanche wheels, but also wider? Would the 285's do the opposite when being put on the narrower wheels and become taller/narrower?
Thanks again for the help, I really appreciate it.
I've got them on my truck and here's what I had to do: I had to crank the t-bars all the way up , trim a small amount of wheel well(no big deal), tied back the e-brake cable with a big wire tie(no big deal).........and they were on and running good. I did start running into some rubbing while turning into a parking lot or something similar that had a steep incline or bump to it. So I removed the tires and took a fairly big ball ping hammer and knocked in the area that was rubbing and gave it about 1" more clearance and I have not had it rub again since. It sounds like more to do than it really is.........it's not a big deal at all !!
I didn't realize you had H2 wheels. My H2's didn't rub at all with 285's but they had about 30k miles on them. I decided to sell them and put the 295's on my stock wheels and did the above. I doubt there is a lot of difference.

So I guess we'll give it a try if we can find somebody to swap the tires for cheap. It can't be that hard to make the 295's fit (we already did some trimming).j
The H2's with worn out BFG AT's (285's) didn't rub at all but the new 285 Duratracs rubbed a lot. Hopefully the 295 Nittos won't rub since we did some trimming already and since they measure about the same height as the Duratracs.
