I went on a 3000 mile vacation and my truck started smoking at idle on the first leg about 500 miles out. I thought it might have been the fuel since I live in California and was up in Las Vegas and Utah. As I continued on the trip it got worse and worse. By the time I got to Washington on the Olympic Peninusula it was pretty bad.
My truck is an 04 with 61000 miles and has been well maintained although I never put on a secondary filter or added any additives. I purchased it in Sept of 2003 so I am barely under the 7 year 100k warranty.
I need some advice concerning the warranty and what to say to the dealers so I don't get the run around. I just got home so before I go in I need to replace the kitty and remove the Edge Juice Attitude. I also need to put back on the stock intake air cleaner.
I was thinking of taking it to either Wm L Morris in Simi Valley or Paradise Chevrolet in Ventura, California. Any advice on where to take in SoCal would be appreciated.

can Auto Zone tell you your balance rates or just read codes?

Autozone will just read engine codes.
As for taking it to the dealer, there is not much to say.
I would just tell them it is smoking pretty bad when it idles and you think something it wrong.
Make sure you ask them to give you a copy of all the tests they perform with the results.
After they are finished looking at your truck, they will tell you the injectors are bad and either tell you they are under warranty, or tell you how much it is going to cost you to have them replaced.
If they do not mention the warranty, ask them what the injector balance rates are, what the actual fuel rail pressure is when they command it to 160 mpa, and what the fuel return rates are?
Then you can ask them about the warranty and why or why not your truck is covered.
Let us know what they say!

you might have to take it to a few dealers in order for it to covered under warranty. Do you know how many miles you have on the injectors? But you are right...you need to return everything back to stock before they see the truck. Some dealers are shameful and will blackball your vin.

It will be at least a week before I can get around to making it stock and getting it to the shop. I hope they don't rag on me for the 265's tires:rolleyes:

I finally got around to getting my cat back on. Up until that point my truck had been smoking up a storm. The morning after putting it on I took it to the dealer which is about 25 miles from me. I got out of the truck and let it idle and it didn't hardly smoke at all:rolleyes: They had trouble connecting to the diagnotic port the fuse kept blowing. I had noticed the ciggy lighter no worky. I replaced the fuse and it immeadiately blew. They say the lighter socket has a short so I should get some info tomorrow! Evidently these are are on the same fuse:confused: I don't have my owner's manual so I can't lool!

Trippin advised me to take it Rydell Chevrolet in Granada Hills so I followed his advice. It has been there since last Friday. I got a call yesterday and it looks like I am going to get all 8 injectors replaced under warranty:) I think I will install a secondary filter and start using an injector cleaning additive since the next set I will have to pay for.
