I have a 99 6.5 dually. It has 145,000 miles. It had the injector pump replaced at 110,000 miles by the dealership. It now stops running at various times. I have replaced the frame pump & filters. I can be driving down the road and it will stop running. It usually starts back up , but this may happen 6 times in a 5 mile streach of road or it may go 100 miles with no problem. It sometimes dies while idleing. I have a lot of black smoke upon acceleration. Air cleaner is new. It did stop running today and I had to pull the return line from the pump and it started back up. I blowed compressed air through the line it ran good for about 4 miles and stopped again but restarted after a few minuites. I did notice a black substance in the hole for the return line. I started the truck with the line off and this stuff came out. Is my troubles electrical or is it the pump. My warranty is gone so I really need to fix this problem myself. Please help. I was told there is a brain that controls the fuel and it gets hot and doesn't send the right signal to the pump. Has anyone else had or is having the same problem?

First, verify fuel supply at idle by opening the air bleed on the fuel filter or opening the water drain T located on the coolant crossover.

I have fuel supply st bleeder. I did fail to mention that this problem started with the frame pump going bad. I replaced it with a NAPA pump and everything was fine for a while.

If you have supply at idle, then the next item I'd test is the PMD. To test it you must plug another in. Some people say remote mount it in front of the radiator (me). It helps to change it out in a flash.

What is the PMD? Will my NAPA man know? Sorry I don't know all these Abbreviations.

PMD is the black box on the drivers side of the IP (injector pump). You can go to some of the Supporting Vendors or here http://www.kennedydiesel.com/detail.cfm?ID=133 and see a picture of one. Sorry I don't know how to post links.
