94 c1500 S code 4l80e 10 bolt
GLE
turbomaster
+Vac delete
Opened intake
New injectors
LP relay mod
New LP and start relay
snorkel removed on air filter
EGR block off
I started getting codes for the EGR. Rather than invest more money in the vac system I decided to put it towards making the truck more reliable.
I recently installed a GLE chip and turbomaster from Heath Performance. At the time of install I opened up the intake, sealed the EGR and performed a vacuum pump delete. After install I got the same codes for EGR and additionally for the WGA. Todd over nighted me a replacement just in case there was an error in the chip. I replaced the chip again with a known good GLE unit and got the same codes.
As I have read throughout the forum that with the "EGR Delete" of the aftermarket chips allows a person to remove the solenoids. It is my experience they have to be plugged in and can not be removed. I can not answer for any other chips but the Heath units DO NOT ALLOW REMOVAL OF THE SOLENOIDS. Be forewarned!!!
Todd at Heath has been great to work with thus far and their service is exemplary. I will be speaking with them tomorrow about where to go from here. My fear is that I will have to have operational solenoids and will need to diagnose the wiring and solenoids.
Theory 1:
As I understand the system does an initial check to verify the solenoids are available and then never checks them again.
Why can't the solenoids be replaced with an appropriate resistor so the computer sees the correct return voltage?
Can anyone help me with this theory? I have read of at least 1 person replacing the EGR solenoids with 10W 50 Ohm resistor. As I recall all 3 solenoids resistance ranges from 8-12 ohms so I am not sure how the person came up with these values. I have done similar operation when I removed a seatbelt sensor on a car when I changed seats.
Theory 2:
Can anyone help me cross my S pcm to an appropriate F pcm? In this manner I fix the issues completely.
I would normally just replace the $30 solenoids but in my of parts stores Napa, adv both claim a national back order. Unfortunately this really doesn't simplify my truck if I have to keep them in working order.
Thanks All...
