Original problem was my 30' 5th wheel was to close to truck bed rails. Trucksmart lowered the rear with 2" shackles. This gave me the clearance, however, now the ride is very rough. Trucksmart said the solution would be to remove the brackets that the overload springs hit. How will this effect my load and or towing capability? Comments?

Thanks,

Tom

keep this in mind i am no expert, but the brakets is what the overloads hit to make them usefull, if you take them off you essentially have no overload capacity

Are your bump stops hitting the frame? If so remove them.

I lowered mine to accommodate the fifth wheel and went through the rough ride empty thing you're experiencing. I eventually took off the overload bracket and the overload spring and ordered some specially made Timbren rubber overload springs that do not come in contact until the rear settles 1 1/2" from the weight of the trailer or whatever. My dually has been this way for a couple of years and I am very happy with the ride, empty and loaded.
You can Google Timbren and get more info and telephone number for their factory in Canada. You don't want their standard rubber springs because they will stay "in contact" on a lowered but empty truck and the empty ride will continue to be rough. The guy I talked to was very helpful and the Timbren's were here within a week of my order. It takes about 15 minutes to install them. PM me if I can be of any help.

I pulled my overloads and brackets and put a set of airbags in. The ride is amazing. I usually only need about 20psi to level it out and its a nice smooth ride. when hauling a load I have it up at 80-90 and you never notice the trailer.

AMEN.

Pull the overloads, replace with airbags. Problem solved. MORE capacity than the overloads, softer ride. I suggest the AirLift 25415 auto-leveling compressor kit. No buttons. Sensor on the axle / sensor on the frame. When the two don't line up - the compressor turns on or dumps accordingly. Always level.

I finally went this route so that ANYONE can tow with my truck and not worry about how much air is or isn't in the bags. It just takes care of itself.

Personally I would change the rear 2" drop shackles out for Sulastic Shackles with the 2" drop brackets. This will greatly help your ride quality. As far as hitting the overloads more with the 2" rear drop. That is just going to happen unless you remove or raise the overload bump stops. You could raise the stops 1-2" and help in that matter. Regardless of the overloads, I do recommend running air bags since you lowered the rear slightly. Air bags are a great addition to any truck that is hauling/towing much at all. I can hook you up with everything you need if you prefer. Just let me know.
Thanks

The airlift kit looks nice, also looked at the air-ride sensor kit. Very similar to what I have on my trailblazer SS stock. Problem with airride is you have to use their controller. $$$
