: My 6.5TD is running great
Docfranco 07-15-2005, 06:30 PM I was driving home from lunch today and was enjoying my new/old engine swap ....it was running very well. The guy i bought the engine from lied thru his teeth. His "story" was that the engine had 80K miles on it and ran great when removed from a wrecked truck. I hope he stepped in deep doo doo (calling karma). The engine needed new heads and an IP. But it now runs great thanks in large part to the help i have found here. Thank you!!!!
The swap is/was more work than i thought it would be. But, i am glad i did it anyway. I feel comfortable figuring out most problems now, and i have a wicked sounding 1980 IH Scout. Since my Scout only weighs 4500lbs it moves very well and was tested out on one of the harder trails here last week.
Thanks again for the help......:cool2:
quantum mechanic 07-15-2005, 09:16 PM It would be cool if you could link a video clip of that.
Texas Diesel Guy 07-15-2005, 09:17 PM You gotta post some pics of that.
Thats a big powerplant for such a small vehicle.
But just for the record, my Blazer tips the scales at only ~5000lbs, and she scoots pretty good too ;)
94blazer6.5 07-15-2005, 10:45 PM TDG, yes they do.
TurboTahoe 07-16-2005, 01:50 AM 94blazer6.5 and Texas Diesel Guy, you guys are absolutely right!

hrjack 07-16-2005, 10:00 AM I have bought ten Chevy diesel engines so far, and everyone I have was accompanied with a lie(s). I guess it is not possible to trust anyone when it comes to buying.

Yes you guys are correct, and my truck would be that responsive too if not for that 5 sp tranny I got. You can see why, back in 1992-94 6.5 engined trucks ran away from those other guys. Then the PMD monster started showing up and GM started trying to fix these things and forgot to improve them.
Enjoy them guys
Texas Diesel Guy 07-16-2005, 11:40 AM I think you mean '92-'93 6.5 mechanical.
All the '94+ Blazer/Tahoe/Yukon Diesels have the 'tronic DS4 pumps.
94blazer6.5 07-16-2005, 12:59 PM Wouldn't it be cool if we could some how get a 6.5TD in S-10 Blazer/Tahoe!!! Now the would be a VERY responsive truck. I bet that jeep runs great to.

Docfranco 08-09-2005, 06:31 PM I just came across this old thread of mine and laughed. I need to update/reply with my motor is out and awaiting a crank and bearings...so much for how good it is running...
I atribute my misfortune on the SOB who sold me the engine. I hope he got nailed by the bad karma he deserves. He told me the engine had 80K miles and was pulled from a wreck. After i got the engine, inspection started to reveal signs that he was full of ****. Anyway, on top of the swap nightmare...i have had to replace the heads, IP and now the bottom end...
back to your regularly scheduled programs....
Doc
D.Camilleri 08-10-2005, 11:47 AM Sorry for your bad luck, I have only one thing to say about used 6.2/6.5's, before ever laying down any cash, remove the pan, check for cracks and check the bearings, you will only be out a couple hours of time and will know what you have, and if it is a fairly hi mile engine with unknown history, bite the bullet and replace head gaskets and bolts, it is so much easier on the engine stand.
