Hey guys,
This is my first post here. For a little backround, I use to own a 2002 Toyota Tundra with the 4.7l V8. I used it to tow a 19ft open trailer with BMW race car on the back and it would struggle and sag. I had two rear tires deflate on me from the heat build up (yes, they were at the correct pressure). Seeing that we will be getting a double featherlite enclosed trailer for our race cars, we needed to upgrade. I was looking to do it in 6months but with the GM employee discount, why wait. With the Tundra being traded in and all the discounts, my monthly payments are less than what I was paying for the Tundra. I got a Chevrolet 2500HD crew cab, with dmax motor, auto trans, LT trim. Its victory red with dark grey interior. So far, I couldnt be happier with the performance and overall heavy duty feel of this truck. The interior and exterior fit far surpass the Tundra by a mile. There are no rattles, squeeks, creaks etc.. Did I mention the tq on this thing is incredible. From the moment I took the test drive, I knew I'd be a diesel guy.
Just wanted to share my great experience and look foward to surf this site for a wealth of information.

Congrats man, you'll enjoy the truck. This truck will prove to be expensive, though. Not because of repairs, but because of upgrades....:D :D

Welcome to the DP! ;) Just stay away from the Power and Performance boyz and your wallet is safe! :D Of course you are going to be towing a trailer so an exhaust upgrade would definitely help. And for climbing hills and getting a bit more hp/tq you should probably invest in a programmer, E/J with attitude is pretty popular on the DP. Again, just stay away from those "Diesel Pushers" on the P/P forum. ;) ):h  JJ :)

Thanks for the welcome guys. I'll look into the exhaust and programmers later on. For now, I wanna break the truck in. Yesterday, I did a 230mile road trip and saw 17mpg according to my DIC. This is such an improvement over my Tundra mpg wise, its amazing. Even with 230miles, I was still at half a tank exactly.

You all will enjoy the Dmax's. Had one for 1 yr and it's been back to the dealer 3 times. Lube, oil and filters. Still tight as a tick even with many miles on the washboard.

Picking my 05 3500 Duramax Dually up tomorrow. Can't wait. I traded in my Ford F250 PS. I loved that truck eventhough it went through 3 trannies in 115000 miles.
Can anyone recommend a perf chip that won't void warranty? I have a 3 horse trailer that I haul weekly.

Picked up ,u 3500 Duramax Dually last month and just got back from our first camping trip with a 14k Carriage Cameo LXI 5th wheel. Anyone who thinks the Allison transmission feels great in a show room has to experience the combo in tow mode. Absolutely unbelievable! Fuel milage was not bad, betwee 9 ~ 12 mpg towing 62 ~ 65. Much better than my Ford gasser.

Despite the great deal, it took a lot to get past the sticker price. Needless to say I want to do things right and keep this around for quite a while. Have one more trip and I'm going to take her in for the first service -- oil, oil filter, fuel filter and tranny filter. Any other recommendations?

Welcome to all you new owners. Hopefully things will go well with your trucks. I'm on my second Dmax and they both have been great. Keep your eyes on this forum and you should learn plenty. I know I have.

Good luck,
Steve :ro)

I just picked mine up last week, as a result of the employee's deiscount+ rebates. I traded m '01 6.0L for it, and did not finace anymore for the LLY as I did the 6.0L!

So far, I have fueled once( because I wanted to) to show my father-in-law it's actually cheaper to fuel a half tank of diesel than 1/3 of new 6.0L on premium.
I have observed a best MPG of 17.1, and an average of 16.8. Albeit, I haven't done the "road work" as some of the postings, with this as the 6.0L. And that was a very competant setup, this is a far superior drive train combination.
And it is waranteed 2 more years and 64,000 more miles longer. Seems like a no brainer, even with the an additional $4,000 added to the price tag. (after the discount)

I got my new truck last week and am happy with the D/A combo. I am trying to figure out how to use the DIC to read the MPG, fuel filter life, oil life and other features. I have the LS model with out the radio controls on the steering wheel. I have looked through the owners manual and can't figure out how to access the additional DIC features other than mileage, trip mileage, and engine hours with the trip reset buton on the dash panel. Can somebody tell me how to do it, and where I should have looked in the manual.

Gator, as I was reading through the manual on the DIC section, GM describes how to access some of this information via flipping switches, stomping pedals, and doing the hokey-pokey in the process.
Why Gm did not make this a universal feature on all models, even if it were a simple dash mounted cluster of buttons, is a bigger question?

Hope this narrows it down for you.

The LS edition does not have all the DIC info that the LT or SLT versions do.

I have one of each.
