Anyone know if the 2011 factory integrated brake controller will work with electric over hydraulic brakes? I know with previous models it has not. I am wondering if they have corrected this as I am looking at buying a 2011 but my trailer has electric over hydraulics and I think you get stuck with the factory controller on the LML 3500hd with dual rear wheels. It may be difficult to by pass the factory controller and install an aftermarket that is compatable with electric over hydraulic brakes.

The documentation I have with my new 2011 truck factory order states "Trailer brake, control integrated *May not be suitable with some electric/hydraulic trailer brake systems. Check w/trailer manufacturer for specific requirements".

In other words, it's the same as the 2007 through 2010s.

However, it really is an EASY fix to get it to work with your electric over hydraulic brakes. I used to have a separate brake controller for my hydraulic trailer brakes, but a friend convinced me that two trailer brake magnets, connected in parallel, between ground and the blue power on wire at the hydraulic tank on the trailer works to trick the truck brake controller. I tried it and it definitely works.

Here's how to do it:

Read through the discussion and you'll see that you need to use TWO magnets. One doesn't provide enough load for the controller to "ping". I bought the cheapest set of two brake magnets I could find at an RV parts supplier.

I put two electric brakes magnets in the trailer as ballast and the brakes work fine.

I too have electric over hydraulic....piece of cake to bypass the factory control.....you'll need about 1/2 ounce of knowledge and 10-15 minutes. My brake controller worls flawlessly.

We have used the two magnet trick a couple times with Dexter and Carlisle pumps and it worked fine. HOWEVER, we tried it last week with an Acti-Brake pump on a trailer and it did not work.

We have 3 of these in the fleet and we don't run them with the elec/hyd trailers unless they have the aftermarket controllers. I've got the ITBC in my truck and it gives me fits. I know there's ways around the details of resistance and magnets and... but it's easier to use a good aftermarket unit than have the "service trailer brakes" message show up doing 75 on the highway. J
