I recently purchased an '05 2500HD w/ Dmax and have discovered a slight whine 57-59 MPH. You can hear it on acceleration, deceleration, or at cruise. Normally, it would not matter, as I don't tend to run this speed much. But, it sucks when having to run the 55 MPH speed limit through some of these small towns with speed traps. You can really hear it then! I tried performing a search for this, but did not see where it had been previously covered. I had 285's removed from my '02 2500HD when I traded it in and installed on this one. I don't believe it to be tire related. Tranny? Rear diff? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

It is common, I believe there is a fix for this. I think you can do a search for driveline vibration. Mine had this when it was new, and I didn't do the fix. I went that speed the other day, and I thought I heard it, but was not for sure. I think it quiets down a bit as the milage racks on. I will do a search later and post my findings after I get caught up on my reading. Welcome to the place and congrats on your purchase!

Reineke's link is one of several I posted info on as well as other members who complained of the same noise around 1800 RPM's cruising. Do a search on RESONANCE and you should find some info.
That said: My damper fix on the downpipe helped but was not a total fix. My "droan" no longer exists since the onset of warmer climate temperatures, or so I thought. I had come to the conclusion that only trucks in cooler climates were having the problem and was waiting for cooler weather again to see if the problem begins again. But, my theory may be out the door if you are having the problem in Texas! Maybe it is a mileage sloution as I have almost 20K now.

You guys are great and correct! It is more of a drone than a whine I suppose. Thanks again! Will report back with how the stealer resolves the issue.

I know I know not a ford but my old 03 f250 6.0 PS had the same drone. turned out to be turbo mount and the clamps there was tbs on how to do all the clamps so there was no bind. mentioned this because it seems gm is now using the garret veritable turbo that ford did in 03 on there then new 6.0 PStoke, maybe same issue here.
