Folks, about an hour ago, my truck was running just fine, I floored it a bit, reached 'bout 50, then it would not go any faster, then a big bang, then a terrible noise, like something broke inside the engine :(
SES light came on, code p0239, dunno if its related, but it came on at the sime time..........the only thing recently done to the truck: new injectors, and I did feel power loss the last couple of weeks.....I'm just in shock right now....-:t

OUCH:mad:

take a socket and try to turn the crank back and forth if it makes noise or if the harmonic wobbles it is the crank.

drain the oil and look for metal parts/flakes.

most likely it is a crank but could have been a rod. in either case most likely you are looking for a new engine

Code: P0239

Description: Turbocharger Boost Sensor B Malfunction

That's not caused by a big bang of any kind. I'm betting the SES was just a coincidence.

Like wes said try to bar the engine over with a breaker bar. Make sure the harmonic balancer is good, as well as the crank pulley. If that all checks out then start the engine with the serp belt off and see if that causes the noise to go away.

How was your oil pressure before and after the big bang. If you snapped a rod and the engine managed to continue to run odds are it snapped at the crank end, which would cause your oil pressure to drop to 0. If you snapped a rod 1/2 way up, or at the piston pin you'd have catastrophic engine failure(rod through the block for example).

....know what you mean...just weird that it came w/ the bang....

This thread gives me the heeby jeevees. I hate threads like this. Best of luck!

Hmmm...I wonder. Could your turbo have let go(that being the bang), and the crunching sound your hearing now be pieces of the turbocharger blades getting beaten into the pistons?

That's what I wonder too Dave.
Or may be a broken donut crossover gasket which broke in pieces and destroyed the turbo turbine (exhaust side) ?

.....the ticking sounds is like from the bottom of the engine, it gets louder as you accelerate....doomed...

If it still runs and everything is still turning (pulleys) and it still moves your crank isn't broken. Maybe it's just a rod or main bearing, I don't know what would cause a loud bang if it's just a bearing though.

Hello Guys, thanks for all the input, today, I started the truck, and guess what, no noise, idle was great, even tried revvin' it up pretty high, and nothing, like nothing had happened, then, after 'bout 10 minutes, you could start to hear the ticking, never as loud as the very first time, revved it up, and heard it a bit more, but just at idle.....I'm taking the valve covers off on Monday, also the oil pan, see If i can pinpoint better...
thanks, and I'll try to load up a vid tomorrow...

have you checked the harmonic balancer/crank pulley?

yup, I have, and it's intact, no cracks on the balancer, and spins nicely @ idle...
more to come...
thanks, and good nite!

Did you get it figured out yet? Please let us all know what you find. Sticky injector maybe, that will make a HARD KNOCK like a rod knocking and then go away. Everything else I can think of that knocks real hard continues to knock real hard.

UPDATE:
Thank you everyone for their input, I used the truck today, twice, for about 30 minutes in the morning running a couple of errands, and for about an hour in the afternoon for almost 45 minutes, the truck worked flawlessly, no noises....I'm puzzled, but I guess kinda happy at the same time....could that loud ticking have been an injector clogged, and then it cleaned itself? those Injectors I got from mylex a couple of weeks back....

Did you check the pulley in front of the balancer?

The rubber in these lets go and the inner and outer rings separate. There are metal stops that stop the outer ring (which feeds the serpentine) from free wheeling, but while the engine runs with it failed like this it makes one deathly sounding rattle.
