Moved to Allison Aftermarket.

Off the top of my head:
-Clutch spring compressor
-big snap ring pliers
-couple of big flat tip screwdrivers
-a good pick set

Its been over a year since I was last in an alli, so I may have missed something. The rest should be common hand tools. Be sure and check the DIY section for the Allison removal thread. It will help you out a lot if you've never removed an Alli.

Edit: Get an ATSG manual!!! Probably the best $25 you could ever spent on your trans build.

The drainback issue is solved by changing two springs in the stator support. This means you pull the transmission and disassemble. At that point if your going to add power it's time to put in some upgrades while you are there.

We didnt use a stand. Some have fab'd an adapter that bolts in place of the PTO cover so that they can use an engine stand. We used a very larger drain pan (2'x4') and some wood blocks. Position the wood blocks so that you can stand the trans up on the tail housing leaving enough room for the output shaft between the blocks. Just be careful not to knock it over. The blocks are not needed when you need to stand it on the bellhousing.

Eat you Wheaties the morning of the build....it's fn heavy!
