I’m just curious and I have a question that very few will be qualified to answer. If, as GM has tried to suggest, dirty fuel is the primary culprit in the injector wars, it stands to reason that the cleaner the fuel, the longer they last. So here’s my question: Among those of you who have both supplemental fuel filtration (Nicktane, or whatever) AND a larger than stock fuel tank (Super Tank, Transferflo, in bed), how many have suffered injector failure. I ask it this way because the fuel system constantly returns unused fuel to the tank, which is recirculated through the system until it, too, is eventually burned. In large tank applications the fuel conceivably could pass through the filter a number of times before finally finding its destiny singeing the nose hairs of some snotty rice burner. By that time the fuel should be very clean. But if the failure rate is indistinguishable. maybe fuel cleanliness is not a real issue.

a previous poll with over 100 responses showed no real difference with th extra filtration, doubt the larger tank will change the results.

The original "batch" of injector failures in 2001-2002 trucks were primarily caused by manufacturing defects of the injector bodies.
Increased fuel filtration, which will result in cleaner fuel, will increase injector life over the "long term". There are sufficient studies that have been conducted that support this.
With regard to the "poll" conducted on this forum, the failure modes for the injectors are being mixed together. With a few exceptions (those that had more than 100K miles on their injectors), the majority of injector failures were most likely not due to dirty fuel. Most of the lower mileage failures were due to cracked injector bodies which resulted in fuel dumping into the crankcase.
If you plan on keeping your truck (ie. high mileage), then a supplemental filtration system will eventuall pay for itself.

2nd motor in my truck & at 167,000 miles, injectors are dropping like flies. I replaced 1 about 3 months ago. Yesterday Eric replaced 3 of which 2 were only suspect. Drove a 170 miles and **** another one let loose. Did not show bad yesterday. So here I am back at Eric's to have another replaced in the morning. Have always had 2 fuel filters on this truck, but I can not honestly say it helps. The first motor didnt have a failure till 216,000 then 3 failures within 25,000. -:t -:t -:t
