Well I got my EGT gague in and It looks nice and all but I have no idea what is a avg good temp. Right now at idle it goes no higher than 300deg f. At 70MPg at the expressway it goes to about 450f. Under HARD acceleration and really pushing it temp went up to 600deg F. Mine is installed in the downpipe ...
What is normal and where should I start to worry ?
Thx again in advance ...

Well I am no expert...but that sounds about right to me. I am installed at pre turbo and my numbers are about the same. The number that worries me is the one when you are pulling a 33ft fifth wheel up a 6% grade when it's 105 degrees outside. Mine hits 1250 almost 1300 when I push it...Thats when I back off. That is the only number I care about.

That really seems cold to me (and that's probably a good thing). Mine doesn't run that cool on a zero degree day. I run between 60-65 at 450 deg. F (add 50 deg. if A/C is on). Up at 70 mph, I'm around 500 deg. F

Mines pre-turbo @ idle I'm see about 200 - 250, and @ 70mph or 2200RPM's 550 - 600. Somewhere here I read if it's in the down pipe you should add between 200 - 300* for heat lose dew to the turbo. That's why most will say mount pre-Turbo so you get a better reading.

Yup, mine is post turbo and my personal max EGT is 900 to compensate for the difference. In the interest of longevity and peace of mind I rarely let it go past 850 though. On flat ground, no load, 65mph, I think I am in the 350 range. Pulling my loaded car trailer on flat at 65 I am at 475-500. Oh, and these are with AC on. The wife insists!
