I would like to first thank everybody for all the info on this site. Seems every time I get on here I learn something about my truck I didnt know.

I have a problem..... Today at the fuel station I was doing my normal fluid checks and found my power steering fluid was almost empty. I filled it back up and found the fluid had ended up in the carpet under the drivers side floor mat. The truck stops ok, not as good as it did when I first got it, but it does just fine for the most part. Im thinking the hydro booster is leaking???? Is there a gasket or something to replace or am I barking up the wrong tree. Thanks for any help, not many people around here are in the know about these early model diesels.

theres a seal in there. mine was leaking for a while then mysteriously stopped. i think you need to get a new hydroboost though, i dont think you can get seals for them. i could be wrong though.

I've found seal kits available at a large truck & industrial brake parts house in Portland. The kits vary, depending on Hydra-Boost model. The trick is, some Hydra-Boost units have a "staked-in" pushrod, other models have a pushrod rubber grommet that holds it in place. The ones with the staked piston are very difficult to get the pushrod out to replace the piston shaft seal. That's the seal the leaks onto the carpet inside the truck.

If you are careful, one can press the pushrod out of the piston, disassemble the unit and reseal it and then, reinstall the pushrod, restake the piston in the same area that held it originally and you'd be good as new. The problem I've had is that pulling the pushrod sometimes fractures the edges of the piston and ruins it for reuse. I've never been able to buy the piston, they always tell me it's not available and I need to buy a rebuilt unit.

The ones with the rubber/plastic retainers are easier. Just pull the pushrod, reseal the unit, install a new retainer, reinstall the pushrod and it's done.

My boost is leaking in the engine compartment and won't pass inspection (PA). Is there a seal kit for the hydroboost? I don't think it's an internal leak - functions fine- but more of a leak in the connection between the booster and the master cylinder? Is this it? acdelco #22506440 click the diagram link.

The Hydroboost was replaced on my truck by the PO. He told me it cost him $300. A seal kit would be the way to go if you can do it yourself. My carpet is soaked from it leaking.Been thinking about buying new carpet.
