I was wondering if most of you guys change oil every 5000 like suggested in the schedule in this forum or do you go by the DIC monitoring system.
I have 16000 kms on this oil and still showing 22% life left. Seams long and don't want to screw something up.

No every 10k per the manual. 8k if ive heavy dirty hauling. I DIC is usually pretty close to where it should be based on the miles. Anyone that changes there oil every 5k is wasting money and time unless they have sent an oil sample off and something was wrong. I used to do mine at every 15k and oil analysis always came back fine.

Now that sounds more reasonable, Thanks

what about synthetic oil how often

Diesel oils have a neutralization number based out of 12. That has to do with the large amount of egr that drives the acidity level up and represents their ability to not become acidic. Amsoil is 12 of 12 and Shell Rotella T is 11.5 of 12. So Amsoil only has a very slight advantage over dino. It would be possible if you sent the oil out for testing. imo

I change oil before leaving FL when going to NV and when leaving NV for FL. About 2X per year. Probably equates to ever 7500 miles or so.

I change at 10,000 because it's easy know when to change.
Oil analysis on Delvac-1 said 14-15,000 would be fine. 10K is just easier.

You should never listen to your DIC! Period. There are no magical sensors that analyze your quality of lubricity left in your oil,it's only based on a combination of cycling and mileage. The only true way to really determine when to do a changeout is with a SOS program.Once you establish a baseline, then you will know what's the safe level for you.I use Schaeffer's lab with Schaeffer dino oil and changeout at app. 7500 miles.

My truck went past 15,000 miles on the current fill of Amsoil as in my signature, the lab stated the oil was good for continued use with another check after 7,000 additional miles, or 22,000 miles. TBN is still 7.91 with 2.0 being the low limit. No water, abnormal wear metals, or fuel soot detected. This oil can go 35,000 miles, or indefinitely in some cases. It has only used a quart of oil in the last 7,500 miles. I will change the full flow filter at the next check, and continue running the current bypass filter. What's not to like about synthetics?

My truck gets fresh Delo 400LE and Wix filter every 5K miles or 3 months whichever comes first. Alot of guys give me trouble for doing it more regularly than most but it is cheap insurance. My trucks keep running long after theirs are dead so I think I'm doing something right.
Also, change your fuel filter and Allison spin on regularly as well.

I change my oil every 5k just because how easy and cheap insurance it is.
