Yesterday cruise control set at 80 the truck all of a sudden looses power and the engine light comes on. Would only do about 50 if I had my foot lightly on the pedal if I gave it more gas it wouldn't go..

Pulled off the road and turned truck off, when I restarted it periodically has a 'clatter' that's much more pronounced for our diesels. I changed fuel filter, same thing.. no other lights are on except the engine light.. I had truck towed 90 miles back it sits at my father-in-laws stealership where he works..

I'd like some ideas from you guys as the shop won't open until Monday and I want to brace for worse case scenario. To make matters worse my wife stopped out AAA plus last year and when we signed back on this year its the basic service so the tow cost me $240, I'm only going to have the stealer diagnose the problem but if possible I'd like to fix it myself.

Truck is an '05 LLY 4x4 with 129K. With no mods.

You dont need the stealer. All you need is an ice pick. Search Ice Pick Fix on here. Ice pick injectors 2 and 7 and all will be good. I had this happen to me bout 300 miles from home. It cost me $100 tow and 12 hours waiting on my dad to get to me with a goose neck. It only took me $8 and 10 minutes. Ill see if i can find the link for ya and post it on here.

its been a while since I've been on, I remember hearing about the ice pick.. But forgot the symptoms. I need a chiltons or something also as to be honest I don't even know the numbers of the injectors.

If that's it that would be sweet and I could go an retrieve my truck before they lock the gate tonight..

thanks...

Passenger side front to back (1,3,5,7) Driver side front to back (2,4,6,8). I got my ice pick from walmart. You can get one anywhere.

Also-- check the FICM wire harness at the side of the alternator. It is tied to the FICM bracket with a zip tie. The sharp corner of the bracket cuts into the wires. Insulate with a piece of heater hose. :D

Worked like a champ.... sorry thing is I remember the ice pick gig, its just that when we broke down I had carpooled with others to the job, so we got a ride the rest of the way and went ahead to work, the whole time at work I never stopped to think "ice pick" although I kept thinking 'injectors'..... go figure........ this site is invaluable!!!! Just wished I would have used my convenient phone and jump on this site while I was still out there before my lengthy 240 tow, 20 for a ride, 40 for a fuel filter and wrench..

lesson learned, first and foremost ALWAYS have a box of tools readily available in your truck at ALL TIMES (I had some tools, mostly construction stuff left overnight on the job we were doing)..

now I just have to wait for the dealer to open so I can get my truck out of the locked gate on Monday...............................

Thanks !!!!

I have lost 3 injectors and #2 and #7 injector connectors all at different times. The engine sounded exactly the same each time. Ice pick is probbably the most common fix because its the most common problem that creates that symptom.
