Just wanted the pro's in here to weigh in on my findings.....

I dove under the hood this past weekend ready to do the swiss cheese job on my factory airbox on my 2005 LLY and was shocked to find NO snorkels, Sound dampers, or tubes of any kind leading into my factory airbox..... Just a healthy looking 5" by 5" square hole exposing the stock air filter element that looked surprisingly similar to the technical bulletin found here for the alteration of our stock boxes....
Is there any need, or rather I should say performance advantage in opening this up more? Did Chevy alter this on the LLY's following the issues with the LB7's. My fathers 01 LB7 had a nasty snorkeled box that is nothing like this one.-:t

Any thoughts or advice?:help2:

for information on opening up your airbox go to:

http://www.kennedydiesel.com/

then go to tech tips, duramax tips, and Dmax air intake mods.

He cut up the airbox and took pictures. That should answer your questions.

And yes, the airbox is supposed to be like that, they are different from the 01' your talking about, which he happens to have a picture of on that tech tip as well.

Good luck.

You're right. The stock airbox is a very good design, and you are not going to gain very much by changing it. 6 rwhp on a dyno on Blue.

I read the article SDKID21.... Take another read of my original post. that tech article is just what caused me to write it in the first place. I noticed something different than what the pictures demonstrated.... But thanks for the reply anyways.

Thanks MCRAT. You are the MAN! Was the 6RWHP with an AFE? or a substantial swiss cheese job over stock?

Thanks in advance!

It was with the Airaid system on Big Blue. Dyno, install, redyno, remove, dyno again stock. No change with stock tuning (small loss), with a 460HP tune level, it was worth 6.
