: Titan Vs. Transfer Flow Vs. Aero
elkhorn98 07-02-2010, 01:25 PM Looking into replacement tanks and have read all the threads. Just want to confirm how far they hang down.
Titan 52 gal hangs down 2.25 inches ~$1250 not installed not baffled
Transfer Flow 45 gal hangs down 1 inch ~$1021 installed baffled
Aero 48 gal doesn't hang down? ~$1100 installed baffled
Help me decide which way to go.. I live in Nor cal so I could drive about 3 hours to transfer flow.
mikelmm 07-04-2010, 12:15 AM I just installed a Titan tank on my 2008 Silverado CC SB, with the skid plate and it does hang down 2.25 inches.
elkhorn98 07-04-2010, 01:42 AM Can anyone confirm the TF or aero hangdown?
elkhorn98 07-13-2010, 08:58 AM Anyone else? Which tank did you end up with and why?
leros 07-13-2010, 12:24 PM My 08 had a 40 Transfer Flow tank/toolbox combo in it when I bought it. I want the bed space and I want to install a Full Metal Jackrabbit cover on the bed so i removed and sold it. I looked at the Tranfer Flow, and Aero tanks but just wasn't sold on the "steel" tanks. I heard that the Transfer Flow hangs down the lowest and saw a picture on here but can't find it. I think that Aero will not let the customer do the install but I'm not positive, although I'm not too far from them, still wasn't sold on the steel.
I went with the Titan and couldn't be happier. Chad at Alligator was having a sale which included the skid plate and shipping. The install was pretty easy, it's built good, it fit very well and 52 gallons is killer. When I put it in the gauge worked good but the range on the DIC would not be correct, i think it would default to 350 miles? the gallons used was pretty right on. Now with EFI it is perfect. I drove to our river place in AZ over the 4th and when I got off the freeway after driving about 250 miles, my range said I had something like 750 miles left! I love that.
As far as the tank "not" being baffled, it kind of is (see my picture below). I don't think that baffling is really going to matter unless you are going to be racing the truck offroad and flying up and down. I took my truck on a boar hunt last month and went on some steep up and down back roads and didn't hear any sloshing or have any problems with the truck starving for fuel. The OEM tank is not baffled so I don't think the absence of baffles is an issue at all (for me).
Part of the reason baffles are used in the steel tanks is for strength, if they weren't used the tanks for expand and contract. The sides would bulge and suck in and would probably make noise.
Good luck with your decision, the Titan is a great tank and I'm very happy with my choice in getting one.
Here is the tank I took out, nice but didn't suit my needs.

The Titan next to the 26 gallon OEM tank. As you can see, the Titan is sort of baffled from the front section.

j4nash 07-14-2010, 05:33 PM If i had the extra money i would buy a Titan tank.
KevinsDMAX 07-15-2010, 01:11 AM Having to stop every 200 miles really sucks...I think Santa is going to get me a Titan tank.

I'd tell Santa that he needs to move his visit up by a few months! Get it, you will love it.
chinolbz 07-15-2010, 01:40 AM I went with the Aero because it's steel, it has a drain plug, and it holds 72gal in the long bed version! It does not hang below the fram rails on my truck. It must be installed by Aero at their shop which makes it tough on a lot of guys. For me it was a 5hr. drive one-way (slept in the truck in the parking lot). In the area I found a guy that used EFI Live to reset my DIC range. Now full of fuel it says I have a range of 999 miles, that's as high as it goes. I only fill up once a month when not on the road. jettech 07-15-2010, 10:39 AM I went with Titan because it was plastic, I didn't want a steel one. I've been more than pleased with mine.
GMC2500HD 07-15-2010, 01:40 PM Titan does make a good product. Tested and proven from what I have read.
leros 07-15-2010, 03:38 PM It seemed Titan had a few issues a while back with a few leakers but the fixed that problem with an improved design. I haven't heard of any problems with the tanks anymore.
v2500hd 07-16-2010, 05:21 PM I am on my second Titan. Very good tank, straight forward install....If I were closer to CA I would go to Aero. Let them install it for a little less money than the titan tank...But overall the Titan is good to go.
leros 07-16-2010, 11:57 PM Plus with the Titan, when you register online they send you a really cool Titan hat ;) and some $50 off cards for someone else that might want to buy one.
wolverine68 08-02-2010, 05:51 PM Is clearance an issue with a dual exhaust (dual from the muffler back)?
lbz492 08-02-2010, 06:07 PM i have titan tanks in both of my truck with no problems. i like that it is plastic no rusting.

Does your truck have a single or dual exhaust?

Ya I saw them on ebay. I'm a little concerned about my dual exhaust clearance. I need to find some pictures of the tank near the rear axle.
leros 08-03-2010, 12:31 AM I have a single exhaust on mine so I don't have any issues with clearance. I'm getting ready to add to my leveling lift by installing a Cognito 4-6" NTBD lift. I will start taking it apart tomorrow night and I'll see if I can shoot a few pictures in the back to give you an idea of how it sits.
elkhorn98 08-03-2010, 09:24 AM I'm still trying to decide what tank to get. Leaning toward the transfer flow. I worried about a plastic tank hanging that low. And I could repaint the transfer flwo if needed. Right now the tank is $770 online.
Has anyone seen both the titan and transfer flow. Which one actually hangs lower?
leros 08-03-2010, 10:00 AM It doesn't seem to me that it hangs down very low, at least not enough to cause a problem. The OEM tank is plastic, the Titan is plastic also but pretty thick and it has the same thickness skid plate.
$770 is a good price. I personally didn't want a steel tank especially after reading posts about water and moisture in fuel tanks. I don't want to deal with rust. Although when I dropped my tank I didn't see a sign of water.
As far as which hangs lower, I read a thread on here a while back that had pictures of both mounted on trucks. There was also another guy that had a Titan or a Transferflow on his truck but removed it and installed an Aero tank because it didn't hang down like the other two?
confrontational 08-03-2010, 10:24 AM I found a great deal on a 55 gal Titan for a Long Bed if anyone is interested. I'd snatch it up but no love on my short bed. :(
wellsaidfred 08-04-2010, 12:25 AM And I could repaint the transfer flwo if needed.
I believe the concern with rust is on the inside not the outside.

True, I'm pretty sure the Transferflow and Aero tanks are aluminized steel and powdercoated on the exterior.
