Tuesday morning my wife and I welcomed our first child and now we are looking for the LATCH system for my 2002 2500 HD crew cab and 2001 cavalier sedan. I was hopeing that one of you may be able to tell me were to get them or the GM part #'s... Went to the dealer and he couldn't find them...Said they were real popular back in 02 but hasn't sold to many since, becuase all new GM's come w/them..

Not sure what the dealer would supply. On my extended cab (04), the middle seat position in the back has the brackets for the LATCH system. There are also the nylon loops on the seat backs for the car seat tether. All of this was described in the owners manual.

You may want to go to a dealer and look that the owners manual for an 05 crew cab. Then go out on the lot and look at crew cab truck. Take the parts guy with you and show him what you are looking for and he can probably order you the parts. They will probably fit your 02 since this stuff if pretty standard.

And congratulations on the baby. I have been enjoying my first for the past 8.5 months now and it's great!

Congratulations
I tried the latch system in my truck...found that I can get the seat alot tighter by puting my knee (and weight) in the seat and pulling on the seatbelts as hard as I can. I can stand outside of the truck, grab the seat and rock the truck.
Also remember that backseat center is the safest place for the little ones.

The problem with just doing that is, the buckle length tends to interfere with the child seat. I can put both knees on the child seat, push my back against the roof, and make the seat go as tight as possible. But once the buckle tries to 'turn the corner' into the child seat, you cant go any farther. I have run across this along a wide variety of different vehicles, (including the above mentioned) but as well as my ex-2000 Blazer, and our 97 Jeep Wrangler.

Your description makes me wonder if the seatbelts in the newer trucks are different than the older.

And... for what its worth, I have yet to see the seatbelt hold the seat tighter than a properly installed LATCH setup.

I have to agree w/mangus(even though he's my brother) Every time we try to pull the belt tight the buckle stops us. Same for the cavalier.

I though latch system was mandatory across the board in 99 or 2000. I know my 01 subaru has it...

Tether (the top one) was mandatory back then. September 2003 time frame was the mandatory date for "passenger" vehicles.

I've got the latch system in my truck, and I have to agree WanaDmxsub: I have had better luck with the seatbelt over the latch. I don't think that the problem is with the truck, but with the particular seat. In my case, the seat does not allow you to tighten the latch belts better than you can with the seat belt. I've got 3 little ones, an I ran into the same problem with all their seats. Again, just my .02. Your mileage may vary...

I ran into problems getting the seat base tight.I have a 03 cc and use the latch system with two seats in the back. The only seat that would work in all my vehicles was a Britax. The infant carrier has a bar that rests against the back of the seat so when you tighten down on the straps the seat does'nt flip up.This was the only seat that had this bar.I spent hundreds of dollars on seats of all different brands that no matter what I did would not stay tight and would slide around.Trust me check this seat out.I would'nt put my kids in anything else.

96dragshee You da man!!!!! :ro) we use a britax marathon for our son. and are even in the plans of buying a second one!!

one thing I have noticed, and did this today in my 86 Blazer, is sometimes you can yank the seatbelt buckle over the corner, and get things tighter. I do not think this method is good practice, but can work when its the only option.

kewl!! :ro) :ro) Had no idea there were that many out there... ;)

if anyone is looking to buy one, the wife found a great place online to get them for $200 with free shipping!!

We are hopefully gonna order a cow-moo-flauge one for the kiddo this week.

Has anyone heard of 'universal kits' for the latch? I ran accross a website that gave me the impresion that they existed for older vehicles....
