Here is the deal. I am diagnosing my truck to find the bad injectors. Right now I think that with EFILive I can check balance rates, look for bad ones. remove valve covers and do visual inspection to check for leakers, command max fuel pressure to maximize leak rate. I am getting a lot of fuel in the oil but no smoking, idle or full throttle.
What I need is to borrow a dongle/cable. I do not need a license. I just need the diagnostics capability. I can provide my own computer and can download EFILive from the internet. I know that most guys tune their truck and then put the cable in a desk drawer for many months. I just need to borrow it for a couple of weeks. Even if you still have a license on your cable I would not want to lock a license to my truck if the cable is not close.
I have been on this site for a long time and have contributed much information, as well as learned a lot. Now I need help and hope that someone can step up and help out.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Wow, guess I miss understood the value of this item. If it would help I could put up a bond of some sort for insurance on the dongle. I just need to get this job done. Maybe it would be better to have the stealer do the diagnostics. One dealer said $75/hr and to ecpect at least 2 hours for the diagnostics. They can do balance rates, return flow test, and maybe other tests. Then I could do a dye test with covers off to confirm their findings.
Thought I could do it all myself, just don't have the tools for electonic diagnostics.

PM me with your addy, I am 5 hours from you and you can use mine. BTW the dealer hooked up the Tech2 and within about 10 minutes determined what injectors were bad. 2 Hours seems like a lot of diagnotic time....

It turns out that you will need everything including the V2 for this to work.....

Tim,
You are correct, I need everything that it takes to read the truck except the computer. In your case the cables and the V2 scanner. Thanks for the help anyway, I am sure I can find another one.
So the hunt is on again, just need a V1 cable so I can read the truck. A buddy of mine had one that he said I could borrow anytime, called him up to take him up on the offer. Found out that his truck burned to the ground with EFILive cable inside. Sorry to hear about the truck. Now he might buy a Dodge, ouch!!!
So if you got an old V1 cable in a drawer that hasn't seen the light of day for a while I would really appresiate borrowing it for a couple of weeks. Will pay for shippiing and insurance both ways.

Lets try this one more time. I have heard that a person can upgrade from V1 to V2 and get a discount, but the V1 does not need to be returned to the dealer. I understand that the V1 is then locked out of the system so that no additional licenses can be added to that cable. But I also understand that the cable is still functional as a scan tool. If I understand this correctly then it is quite likely that there are a lot of guys out there with a V1 cable that will never be used again because they have V2. If this is the case then does anyone have a V1 cable they are willing to sell. I figure at this point I am going to have to spend money to get the truck looked at and I might as well spent it on something I can keep, like a V1 cable that I can still use when I an done with this problem.
So does anyone have an old V1 cable they will sell to me for lets say $100.

Thanks a ton Jay, got it today. When the time comes to buy my own I will have to pass this one on to another person in need. Now I have to learn to use it.
