Last week a coolant leak appeared. When I got home I had a small spot of coolant form on the ground at the front of the truck. I filled it back up and drove the truck around several days with no leak. that weekend I drove to the coast (3 hour) and 5 miles out of town I got a low coolant warning. I check when I got there and I was down about 1-2" of coolant. Filled it up and drove around all weekend with no leaks at all. On the way home (3hours) it did the same thing 5 miles from the house. Monday no leak to or from work, Tuesday no leak on the way to work but I drove it real hard on the way home and it leaked a little.

I just changed the water pump, therms, hoses, banjo clamps on the turbo, 10k ago. When I look for the leak it looks to be comming from the water pump, I don't know if it is the weep hole or the O-ring though.

WHAT GIVES??? is it the water pump or is it something new?

Head gaskets:eek::eek:

Verify the head gaskets are good. Wait until the engine is dead cold then try to squeeze the radiator hose. If it's hard as a rock, it's likely the head gaskets are gone. If it's soft, there's something else afoot.

If you're seeing water near the water pump, I dunno... you may have gotten a bad one. That does happen... though it really sucks. Good luck!

Could possibly be the O ringed tube that comes from the thermostat housing down to the top of the water pump... They are very prone to leak after a water pump change as did mine but I did a simple trick of using 2 Orings and some petroleum jelly for installation...

One other place might be the back side connection to the water pump by the tube coming from the block...? Thats a thin metal shim type gasket that if any debris gets between it and either side will leak also...

it has not leaked at all sense I changed the water pump 10k miles ago. It has not leaked a drop in the last two days but if I drive the truck hard for a long distance it will start to dribble out of the front of the motor. This morning I opened the hood and felt the upper hose and it was not hard, I removed the coolant cap and the system did have a little pressure though. If it is a head gasket why is it pushing coolant out the water pump why not just push it out the overflow?

Found it!!!! We put a pressure tester on it and found that it was that little 3/8 hose above the water pump on the front of the motor. It had a very small pin hole in it and was shooting out a fine mist.
