Hi all! I am new to the forum and new to diesel trucks. I just bought an '01 2500HD 4x4 with the allison and duramax. I have not even picked up the truck yet.
The rig has 80k on it. Is there anything I should look for that causes problems with these?

Sweet looking ride! Extended cab short bed in that burgandy color. I'm all excited!

:welcome: Welcome to the forum! If you've done your homework and gotten a Carfax or some other history on the truck, and nothing turned up, you should be OK. You can go to the VIN check board here and request a VIN check if you haven't already done that; that'll give you the repair history. Using the search feature here will give you volumes of info on almost anything you want to know. If you still can't find what you're looking for, just ask. Lots of helpful info and people willing to help. Now just enjoy your truck!

:)
You might want to consider adding an additional fuel filter... suggest looking at www.nicktane.com (http://www.nicktane.com) for additional information.

Dito to the VIN check here. I have heard the first model 01 had some trans issues, but I dont know what they were,,other than that,Just get used to the look you get if you pull anything as you pass people with that big grin on your face at 70+ uphill! Welcome,Frank

Welcome. I just got mine a couple weeks ago. Have orderd all the filters and stuff online. They're too expensive locally. I agree to change all fluids and filters and will be doing so over the next week or so. By the way, this is my 7th truck and it's the best one I've owned, by far.

I think i will chip it!
How is the banks kit with the chip and intercooler and exhaust and all those goodies? The kit that is like 4 grand?

I wanna make this thing beat my friends beamer in the QM!

The banks stuff is overpriced IMO and there is no need for an intercooler. Do a search in the LB7 electronics forum to get a feel for whats recomended in terms of electronics. Whats your friends beemer run in the 1/4?

I wanted to thank yall too. I have been cruising this site for about a week. I bought a 01 6sp. thursday of last week, and I rung the mid shaft bearing out in it on the test drive, and when I payed for the truck. My blockhead dealer put it in wrong. So while I've been waiting patiently for my rig to get home from the good doctor at Republic Diesel, I have been reading whats on here, gathering up ammo. Yall really know these trucks and I appreciate the help. Had I not got on here I would not have known about the TSB on the mid shaft bearing. Now I got the guns to go to the chevy dealer with cause I purchased a 4 year warranty with this truck.:grd: I'll be around here for a long time cause my last truck was a 89 with the 4 speed mucie in it, and I got 400,000 thou out of her, 2 motors, 1 tranny. Im known to stay in one truck for a spell.

Thanks guys.

Buy an Edge Juice and spend the rest of the 4 grand on an Allison upgrade.
