Anyone know how much HP the AFE Stage 2 intake system is supposed to gain on an LLY? I put my 05 on the dyno today, made a few pulls and was very dissapointed...stock it put down 243RWHP, and 432RWTQ, I then installed the AFE, made another pull and the HP jumped to 260 with 433RWTQ. So at this point I'm pretty happy, I decide to make another pull just to back it up and it dropped right back down to 243hp... It never made the same HP 2 pulls in a row... anyone else ever dyno one of these and have this problem?:(

you can try a search for some type of results like this, but its pretty unanimous that none of the aftermarket intakes do anything except increase turbo whistle. There was a test done and the stock air box performed just as good if not better than some aftermarket ones.

Cool, thanks for the response... I am hoping the computer just needed time to adjust to the more air... I drove from Bowling Green, Ky to Tulsa, OK last night, will be going back to BG today, tomorrow I will strap it back on the dyno and see if there is any difference in it then....

added an afe stage 2 to my truck yesterday and took for a test drive.
the turbo seems to spool up a bit quicker but the whistle everyone is
talking about wasn't any louder than my stock swisscheese box. should
i remove the plastic thingy on top that says 6.6 on it.

From what I've heard you should try to get two runs back to back without changing anything to see if the results are repeatable. If they are great. If not something is wrong and needs to be addressed before you can get reliable results.

ive been running the afe stage II for quite a while. I personally think the stock box worked better and stayed cleaner. the afe gets dirty and didnt make any major improvements although the turbo whistle is a hair louder.

laking....gordie? as in howe? do/did you play? where?

I think you need a metal intake tube to really get the loud whistle. I've heard of people removing the black piece, I don't think it makes that much of a difference though.

:offtopic:I did a bit of roller hockey. It hurts too much to play anymore the way I want to. Yes Gordie Howe. You can't help but like that guy. end :offtopic:

Removed that plastic resonance damper - noise became worse (no whistle noise...), did not help at all!
Have the AFE Stage 2 for more than 5k miles, did not improve a thing, also not louder than the cheesebox (maybe even quieter). Its also true that it gets dirty very easy compared to stock and will flow less then stock ....not worth any money IMHO but I got mine free of charge so I tried it anyway.

Would loved to have seen this thread before I wasted $440 on the AFE stage 2 myself. Im with everyone else, totally a waste of money. There are so many products that people brag about or say are the best thing ever on internet message boards, then you buy one and its not worth half the price you paid for it. I think AFE should stand for Awfully F'ing Expensive. Ive spent more money on worse things though.

Yep....pretty expensive for a plastic pipe, a metal box and an air filter that just sit there and don't do any good what so ever....

I have an AFE II and I have not dyno'd it to see if there is any difference........I do feel the turbo spools easier and faster.....JMHO.

I did not pay $440 for mine so I won't be selling it anytime soon........

Maybe I will goto the track with the stock airbox and the AFE and see if I gain or lose.........

I just added an AFE stage II and the turbo spools up sooo much quicker. Truck really feels faster and the 0-60 timer on the Edge proves it. Now im at 6.4 seconds 0-60 according to the Edge. Before the intake, best I could do was 6.6 seconds. I love it!

$440 for an AFE:eek: that better include a proguard 7 filter on top of the reg. one & a prefilter

I couldnt tell any difference in anything after the AFE, but after the exhaust..... I can tell a huge difference there is virtually no lag now.
