I have a 2004 LB7 and I am fairly certain that the injectors are failing. I have until October to get them replaced under the extended GM warranty. However, I have also been considering taking this opportunity to upgrade the injectors as well. I was considering going with some +50hp nozzles, but I am fairly certain the dealership won't install them for me. Is it possible for the dealership to just give me the injectors under warranty so I can take them to another shop and have them installed with the nozzles? I would hate to have basically the same labor done twice on the truck?
I am also open to other suggestions.

why don't you talk to the dealer and see if maybe their tech will put the tips on for you while he's doing them? i doubt they will give you the injectors for some one else to do. they need to stay in business too. it's worth a shot in asking.

stock injectors can give oyu alot of HP with just a tune and lift pumps so I would think about my options, bigger nozzles would beat your truck down as it appears to be stock, so you have the chance of bending some rods and burning holes in the pistons. Best thing is if you want to build it, build it right. The tranny would need some help too...

Tranny is definitely in the mix... I will have to take it to Mike L. seeing as he isn't too far from me. But, my concern with the injectors is that I would like to get it taken care of before my extended warranty runs out. So I was considering the upgraded nozzles.
Eventually, I planned on and SDP SuperStocker or Fleece Cheetah, Kennedy Twin Pump, and BD Exhaust Manifold... Are you saying this would be too much without replacing internals?

most people can do just a tune with stock injectors and a set of lift pump and be very close to doing engine damage... i would recomend a tranny and lift pumps and a good tune like efi live. duramaxtuner.com has some great tunes for efi live.

Ive been told stock CP3 can usually handle up to 30% over and be able to hold rail pressure. 50%ers may be a bit too large.
Keep in mind when you have larger injectors you can then tune less pulse and timing to make same power. Thats a good thing.

TheBac - I understand your concern of the stock CP3 keeping up, but I was looking at the 50hp nozzles not the 50% nozzles. If I am not mistaken 50hp nozzles should be about 15% over.
Do you guys think that with larger nozzles and lift pumps the Banks 6-Gun will adjust accordingly? Or, will I need to go with a different tuner, i.e. EFI Live, to reap the benefits?

Kenny,
I asked the same question when I was in your shoes back in January...
Decided to stay stock.

Replacements needed, use Stock Injectors or High Performance?
Just wondering what everyone is doing. My truck is smoking pretty badly at idle, haven't had the balance rates checked yet but from what i have read - it's probably time for injectors at 195,000 miles, and I'm way out of warranty so I'm footing the bill - but I can put in aftermarket parts if I want.
So, GM PartsDirect sells stock injectors at $182. Industrial Injection sells +50hp injectors for $300. Is it worth the extra price for that performance? I don't race the truck, just haul a heavy trailer now and then, and it has had plenty of power for that. I assume the hot-rod injectors will lower fuel mileage? I'm leaning toward replacing stock with stock, but if that extra 50hp is really impressive, I COULD be persuaded to go that way!
Anybody take the opportunity and go with the extra power?

With an otherwise stock truck, you wont have nearly enough air to take advantage of the extra fuel. Couple the 50 horse sticks with a nice aftermarket turbo and you are talking major upgrade. A big advantage of these larger sticks is to not have to advance the timing as much on a truck like mine, with a big EFI tune. Backing down the timing cuts way down on cylinder pressures and helps the longevity of the engine. The stock sticks are good for over 500 rear wheel horse, so my suggestion is to save the money and buy a lift pump :)

The 50hp (I got it right this time..LOL) injectors should work fine on the stock tune, and may even wake that Banks box up. Id think the ECM can compensate.
The young guy who bought my old truck is running 30% on an otherwise stock engine, and he was happy with the performance gain it gave him. I think 30% is around a 70-90hp gain just injectors alone. Oh, and you'd be surprised what the stock IHI can do. :)

You can buy a set of stock injectors for $1,500 and then have the tips extrude honed 30% for $37 per injector.
