Some will argue the point, but I'd go for synthetic. I've been using Mobil1. Although the most important part is changing it.

Newbie question. I’m going to change the rear differential fluid this weekend, 2500 miles on a 05 GMC 2500HD D/A 4x4. I bought Mobil 1 75W-90 (synthetic
) and called the dealer to verify if it was okay to use in my truck. The dealer said “yes”, but I needed to add an additive due to the limited slip differential. Is this correct? I’ve read every thread and post here regarding changing the differential fluid but nowhere did it say to add an additive for a limited slip differential. Can someone please verify this or is the dealer just trying to get more money out of me.
Thank you.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but no additive is needed. I've been using Mobil1 75W90 with no problems.
