I have a truck (97 chevy 3500 4X4) that i want to putt a cummins in but will the 4l80 trany support a 400 hp cummins (12 vale), Or shall I take a Nv 4500 or nv5600 and a adapter to the transfercase

The 4L80 wont hold a stock cummins for long, and you'll need an adapter plate if you don't already know. I think the NV4500 with a dual disk clutch is your best bet, but you can get the 4L80 built.

a 4L80E will support a stock 12 valve for sure. a 400 horse one, im not sure on.
