: Parking garage attendant
RickyR 07-13-2005, 09:39 PM We went downtown (Charleston, SC) for dinner tonight, and there weren't any places to park my truck in the restaurant parking. So I had no choice, but to park in the parking garage. No problem squeezing into the entrance, but when I parked, my last 4 feet (or more) were hanging out into the drive area. I got out and inspected, did my walk around and decided to park using 2 spaces. I looked to make sure there was plenty of spaces for me to "pig up" 2 spots. So I backed out, and parked over 2 spots, but making sure it was only 2 spaces, and no more. This way. I wouldn't be in the middle of the driving area, and out of the door opening a$$holes.
After getting out, we were walking to the exit, and I hear this " hey you" from the other side.. I turned around to see this guy walking towards me. I told my wife to go on and meet our friends, and I went over to speak with the attendant.
He proceeds to tell me that I will get a ticket for parking that way. I said pretty much how else should I park????? One way I'm out in the middle of the lot, and the other, I take up 2 spots.
He says that that isn't the way to park and bla,bla,bla.... He says I will get a ticket, but he won't be the one to do this...So I need to take my chances.
I offered to park like the rest of the cars and have my a$$ hanging out, and let him deal with the damage, and the traffic that it will cause, ( knowing full well he will back off ), so I am walking back to my truck with an ear to ear grin, when I hear, "just leave it there"..........
Just another day with a long bed dually (in the city)...
Ricky...seeya...
Biterman 07-14-2005, 09:35 AM Wanna have some fun with precision technical driving? Try going through a McDonalds drive thru!
Firefighter 07-14-2005, 10:54 AM Yup, and if it weren't for fear of damage, just for fun toss the keys to the civic driving attendant and let him park it "properly".
Jperry 07-14-2005, 12:22 PM Biterman I know what you mean. I went through the drive through at McD in Marathon in Fla Keys. Once I got in there I had a problem. Anyone that has been through that one knows what I mean. Of course people piled in behind me so I couldn't back out. Well.... lets just say there is some very nicely customized hedges performed with dually tires.
BigOL3 07-14-2005, 12:31 PM I double park everywhere I go. If you use one parking lane.....you will get chipped and scratched due to be soooooo wide. Plus the CC makes you stick out into the travel lane.
Gruber 07-14-2005, 12:58 PM You got to love Duallies.......Try parking one with an 11'6" Lance on it. I have to take up 4 spots. 2 for the width and 2 for the length. I try to park it way out there in parking lots. I must say no one has given me any grief about it.......
shawnrans 07-14-2005, 05:06 PM I feel your pain!! If it weren't for the mental midgets that design parking lots for HONDAS !!! but hey, it is fun just waiting for people to give you grief if they dare!!!!:grd:
70 gsconvt 07-14-2005, 07:34 PM I used to have an extended cab, long bed and had problems parking in lots. Now with the crew cab, long bed, OY VEY!! It's lock docking the Queen Mary at times. And I too have already done the McDonald's landscaping job. Oh well, on to everyone's parade a little rain must fall.
Just over three weeks and still waiting for that first scratch/ding from some kid with his 1984 Honda rice burner with fart can exhaust and MASSIVE rear wing to keep the back end on the road.
cdhd2001 07-14-2005, 08:10 PM I feel your pain!! If it weren't for the mental midgets that design parking lots for HONDAS !!! but hey, it is fun just waiting for people to give you grief if they dare!!!!:grd:
I will have you know that I design my parking spaces as big as the city will allow! Usually 9.5 ft. wide by the standard 18.5 long. It isn't my fault, we have to do it by the regs or the project won't pass the permitting phase.
BullydogPowered 07-14-2005, 09:11 PM a friend of mine has a dually and decided to go through the drive thru at a bank hed never been to before. dead center the outside wheels rubbed the curb. the truck just barely and i mean barely made it through. it was funny to say the least
oldtractors 07-14-2005, 10:42 PM I changed banks when mine remodeled the drive through. I went through with about 1 1/2 " to spare on each side of the dually fenders. I decided that obviously they no longer wanted my business.
burnduals 07-24-2005, 07:58 AM I too have absolutly no clearance at the bank in Ak. My tires rub on both sides. I walk in now. I did go through McDs drive through with my bigassed truck, and my 22 foot North River jet boat. I did just a hair of relandscaping, but it wasnt my fault. They dont open up inside untill after 6:00 am. I had to get on the road (fish to be caught) Know what I mean.
Fireman 07-24-2005, 11:16 AM I don't know which is worse...having to negotiate the narrow, sharp turns of the drive-thru lane, or having to shut off the motor so I can place my order in the speaker without having to repeat it 12 times to the girl at the window.):h
Oh well, I guess those are the little sacrifices we must make to drive "land Yachts"!;)

gmduramaxer 07-24-2005, 11:18 AM have one better for ya last week I parked at the local speed shop and someone came in to ask where he could find the molded mud flaps I have--da! Well he forgot to put his 82 toyota in gear well he now knows where to get at least one flap. He owns one of mine now.
QuickSilver 07-26-2005, 04:36 PM I am happy to be back in the country, that way I don't have to worry about the parking situation.
I have tried the circle parking garage and that is a very tight squeeze going up or down in that circle.
Country living is less stress.
SMOKUM 08-02-2005, 10:48 AM Yeah I like them Drive-Thrus also, mine does the same every time. Beings as I am a ol' truck driver, all it takes is a 1/4 inch!!!!
SaguaroKid 08-02-2005, 06:57 PM Talking about drive up windows..
The window on my wife's grand Prix wouldn't roll down, so one night after drinking I backed through the MacDonalds drive up. Should have seen dudes face when we pulled up...Talk about DWI material...WOW..I lucked out that night.

BillB3857 08-31-2005, 09:26 PM I use the drive thru ATM at my local bank branch all the time. Well, the other day I was on the other side of town and needed to get some cash. Went to the drive thru ATM at that branch and as I approached, thought, "this looks a little narrow. Oh. There are bushes at this one and it is an optical illusion." I cautiously make my approach watching the bollards (concrete filled pipes that guard the ATM) and all seemed well with the world. As I moved further in, felt the right rears starting to drag the curb. No big deal. Lined up with the ATM and did my business and started to pull on through. Felt the rear scoot to the left, looked in the mirror only to find the ATM inside my rear wheelwell. NOW WHAT?? Couldn't go forward.... Lucky for me, nobody was behind me and was able to back out with a lot of manuvering and curb jumping since the rear had actually scooted sideways. After getting clear, looked at the passenger side curb. That thing was like a funnel ! ! Went in the next morning to tell the bank I had done some minor damage to their machine (Pulled the rubber bumper strip out) and that they should put up a sign. Got a call that afternoon from the branch manager making strong appologies and asking if there had been any damage to my truck. She assured me that they would have a sign posted to warn the unsuspecting. Haven't been back there to check on it. Bank of America, Mid-Rivers Branch, St. Peter, MO
Diesel Dad 09-07-2005, 06:49 PM I know how you feel. Charleston has some exceptionally narrow streets and parking lots. There is a great parking lot attached to the visitor's centre with large spots and a sort of reasonable cost.
When we pulled into Charleston with our 5'er in tow, we ended up downtown and when we tried to stop and get directions to James Island Country Park, they tried to threaten us into a parking lot with 12 foot clearance. But our 5'er is more than 12 feet high, so you need to stay on your toes.
