: prodigy brake controller
dmaxlover 07-13-2005, 08:06 PM I see that the prodigy has continual diagnostics, to check for wiring problems. my question is, right now have am running a reese brand with digital display, and it also has a diagnostics feature. The problem is if I get the slightess bit a moisture in the plug, the brake controller will not work. Is the prodigy the same way? where did you guys buy yours? price?
coyotekid 07-13-2005, 09:03 PM I got mine from Kennedy, and I really like it. It's the smoothest brake controller that I've ever used personally. In other words, the Prodigy doesn't seem to give those annoying "brake grabs" like a lot of other controllers do.
I've pulled in a lot of rain/mud this summer, and I know for a fact that the plug has gotten wet numerous times without causing any problems for the Prodigy.
big buford 07-13-2005, 09:09 PM Got mine at www.rvwholesalers.com $99.00 I like it, works well. Mark
Reineke 07-13-2005, 11:37 PM If you get one, get the optional wiring harness too, installation is a breeze. The hardest part about it was getting off my butt and installing.
70 gsconvt 07-14-2005, 05:54 AM I got my Prodigy on evilbay for $94, delivered.
Black Max 07-14-2005, 07:55 AM Been using the Prodigy for a year now with zero problems, and it works great. As Reineke said, installation is a snap with the optional harness.
PAPA - H 07-14-2005, 08:53 AM I've had my Prodigy for 3 seasons now. Took it off my older truck 2 weeks ago and installed it on my new 2500HD. Super simple install! Pulling my 10K 5th wheel - pulls like a dream and stops the same. My local RV dealer sold me the short harness to make the connection. Took me longer to walk out to the truck than it did to install the controler. Don't remember what I paid for it through Camping World.
jchappy 07-14-2005, 09:15 AM Ebay brand new 90 buck delivered
Tsckey 07-14-2005, 02:13 PM I've towed in torrential rains several times and never had a problem.

Goldneye 07-14-2005, 10:29 PM Been using the Prodigy for a year now with zero problems.
I did put DIALECTRIC grease on my plug and trailer connection.
scotte 07-18-2005, 06:19 PM Mine is supposed to come tomorrow.. Ordered mine from www.rjays.com for $116 shipped with plug-n-play cable. Looking forward to towing with it.
Do you need to install the optional harness or will the pigtail supplied by GM with the 05 Dmax work iwth the Prodigy? Thanks!
Out!
bettered 07-19-2005, 09:31 AM The optional harnass is for folks who can't read a wiring diagram that shows 4 wires. You find the functions on the GM harnass and crimp them to the same functions on the Prodigy harnass. Colors don't match. The brown wire (illum) is not used.

I bought mine today from a local shop in Phoenix called Quality Bumper. I got ripped on the price at $178 OTD, but I had to get it installed this weekend for a trip next week. I actually had a couple others quote me higher prices. Oh well, that's the price of progress.
I did not buy the plug, so if anybody can tell me what the wire to wire config is that would be a big help. Otherwise, I will have to read and experiment. :ro)

idahofox 07-19-2005, 10:35 PM Go to your dealer and Buy the P-N-P cable. You aready got Hosed, might as well go for a double. With the cable, takes 30 mins if your slow.

02AlliMax 08-27-2005, 01:40 AM The Wire harness from Tekonsha will actually give you a better Brake Controller due to the Plug-Plug Same Gauge wire. Worth the MONEY!!
