: Just Ordered Nittos
NoWake200 07-13-2005, 07:39 PM I just ordered a set of Nitto Terra Grappler A/Ts 265s E-Rated. Replacing my BFGs that were also 265s, I got 27,000 or so miles one them. They wore kind of poorly. They really stoped holding up in the rain:eek: not like when they were new.
I see alot of guys have the Nittos, did I make the right choice?
The price was right that is for sure....and free shipping at Discount Tire Direct.
mahalkita 07-15-2005, 10:17 PM YES! Did the same from the same place. Even 285s on 10 inch wheels are reasonable good in the rain....but some tire noise compared to stock pizza cutters...
NoWake200 07-16-2005, 10:17 AM I have the BFGs right now, and I really do not hear much road noise. I hope they are the same sounding tires now. :o:
CRT racing 07-19-2005, 08:06 AM I currently have the Nitto's and they are a great tire HOWEVER they are wearing out very fast. I will be lucky to get 30K on these tires. About the first 10K miles they were fine, then all of a sudden they started wearing fast.
NoWake200 07-19-2005, 09:12 AM That is what I noticed about the BFGs. The brown truck stoped at the house yesturday, I should have them on today or tomorrow. I am going to miss my white letters.
03BlueHD 07-19-2005, 09:42 AM The Nitto's have not worn well for me either. I think that they are going to be shot with only about 25K miles. Thinking of using BFG next time.
luvthesmellofdiesel 07-19-2005, 10:30 AM My Nitto's are shot with ~25K as well. So the BFG's aren't lasting either? That would be news to me, I have always had good luck with BFG's and am currently awaiting the release of their 16/75/265E TA KO tires.

NoWake200 07-19-2005, 07:00 PM Tim that was also the reason I got the Nittos was for the E-rating. I am hoping that will make them last a little longer than the D. I am sure that has nothing to do with it.
The best tire for wear is the Firestone Steeltec AT. BUT!!!! they suck in the rain and are ok in the snow and sand. I had almost 70K on the set that was on my Stroker.
I have always run the BFG ATs and got great mileage (50k+) and even wear, low noise on the road, great in rain, and off road. I just strapped on the Nitto Terra Grapplers, cause I am running 18 inch rims and BFG didn't have 35s in the 18 inch. So far I like the Nittos on the road, low noise, handle great, etc. Time will tell if they last like the BFGs. I am picky about the maintaining pressure and rotation and that seems to make the difference.
Out!
luvthesmellofdiesel 07-20-2005, 11:41 AM Axe, I'm also picky about rotation and tire pressure. All 4 tires are wearing evenly and they still didn't last. No burnouts either. I am hoping the new BFG 265E's will be good lasting tires if I can coast on my Nitto's just a little bit longer until they are available. If not, I'll goto Michelins I guess.

mine are too! pisses me off:mad: i only have 15k on them and they are almost gone. i wont be getting them again. i dont do any burnouts or fast take offs, just normal driving, pulling my skis and tractor every once in a while. so they suck IMO 285/75/16 E
NoWake200 07-20-2005, 04:59 PM I can see they are soft, I leave blacks marks on the pavent.
I took it to a GMC dealer to install them, I also wanted to get it alligened(?).
First the tech who installed them set the tire pressure to 50 in the front and 80 in back. He said this is what GM called for. Guys, do you want to talk about a F'd up ride! I got home and did 65 all around, gave it a much nicer ride.
Second, I am VERY SHOCKED at this. The GMC dealer said they just go this new machine and the truck was to big for them to calibrate it. I know it is a crew cab, but it is the short bed, what do they do for the full size SUVs and vans?. When he told me this I asked him "this is a GMC Truck Dealership right?" I then asked him "who droped the ball in getting this new machine?"
Anyway I am sitting at a local Meineke getting the truck straight again. :)
tysmith 07-20-2005, 05:15 PM I run Toyo Open Country AT's in the winter, and they have the same carcass from what I'm told, and VERY simialr tread pattern. 55 psi all around unloaded, and they show no wear fom last winter with about 8-10k miles. Any tire guy worth his salt will tell you that an aggressive AT or MT tire won't wear well at all. I had REVO's before, and they plain ground right off in about 25k miles to the wear bars. The softer tread compund that makes them great off road also costs you running down the highway.
More $$ up front, but I now run the Toyo's in the winter, and once I grind the rest of the Revos off, straight-up highway tire for the summer.

NoWake200 07-25-2005, 01:25 PM Out here in OBX:ro)
These new Nittos are KILLER in the sand. They have brand new tread right now I know that helps , but so far they are the best performing tires in the sand so far. I am aired down to 30psi and they just tear the sand up. :ro)
Ok, back to the beach!
BIG MACZ 07-25-2005, 02:22 PM Just ordered a set of Firestone Transforce AT 265/75/16E tires, got em for $120.00 a tire with my commercial discount, I like the looks of these tires and have always been a big BS/FS fan. I do very little off road with my truck so these should do just fine, was more concerned about a high load rating and slightly taller tire to reduce RPM's at 78-80 MPH.
Oh they look cool too.

Your right on that one, somebody in an office prob. made the call based on $$$ and not actual specs.
NoWake200 08-02-2005, 09:10 AM Now that I am back from OBX this is what I nocticed about the Nittos.
First they killed the sand, they preformed IMO much better than the BFG A/Ts. But that could also be due to the fact that they were band new.
Second I noticed they(tires) great really warm, after long trips I put my hand on the tread when every we stop. They seem to be much warmer than the Steeltexs and BFG A/Ts. This much I also know they make air, which would support the tires getting warm/hot. I set the fronts at 55 cold they were 70 hot, this seams like I big spread. Let me know about this one......normal or not.
That is my 2c.
Hate the fact that I am back home......the only good thing is I am with my two German Sheps again.
cooleod 08-08-2005, 10:10 PM Goodyear makes a Wrangler Silent Armor in 265/75R16E and have a 50K mileage garauntee. I put some 265/70R16s on my Durango and am really liking them. I had BFG A/Ts on a previous truck and was completely dissatisfied with their performance for the $$. I liked their M/Ts though. I think I am gonna go with the Goodyears on a stock setup. Just my 2 cents.
firstruck 08-10-2005, 09:52 PM No, you didn't make a mistake. Nitto's are "good" allround tires, They kill in the sand and thats why they sell alot of'em out west. My nearest dealer is about 60 miles away(philly suburbs). I'm gonna get a second set soon as mine are right at the end( no idea what the mileage is on this set is). anywho they drive nice aren't to noisy and seem to handle snow and such fairly well IMHO. can't beat the price and they do look good.
