Who makes a good one and what other gauges should I install in my truck? I am running Hypertech on Level 3 and from time to time pull a 3,500# trailer. I hope I am not damaging my truck, there are some pretty big hills out here in OREGON!

brands will vary, but check the Do It Yourself section for info on how to install the probe in the manifold. 30 minutes and its done.

I am pretty sure you dont have much to worry about in the EGT department. I am running ISSPRO gauges and the probe mounting is a breeze. Head mounting is your choice i.e pillar, trippin, cubby hole or as you can see by pic #1 I am using the cellular phone charger mount. LOL! If you need help let me know.

What does the pyro measure and why do you need L and R?

pyro measures EGT's. you should be careful running the high hp levels pulling a trailer with out a pyro. as far as the install, 30 mins is about right. basically pull the inner fender well on the passenger side completely out, drill and tap the manifold right behind the shield, start truck & let run for a few mins to get the metal out. install thermocouple and gauge and youre done.

Makes sense but why L and R? How far down the exhaust system do the pipes go before going into one?

One gauge is sufficient. The pipes come together before entering the turbine, approx. 12-14 inches from the exh manifold. A tech could probably tell you more accurately. I use two because I want to know if one side is hotter than the other during the use of power adders.
