I am making a trip towing a 30ft Weekend Warrior (GVW = 13,000 lbs and UVW = 7000 lbs) toy hauler with probably less than 1500lbs of cargo. I will be going about 250 miles and there are a few stretches where I will be pulling some 4-6% grades for a couple of miles at a time. Will pulling with my recently installed Hypertech on Level 3 be a problem? According to Hypertech, it is safe to pull with the Level 3 setting as long as you are within the towing limits of truck. I have yet to install an air intake, exhaust, or EGT guage.
Does anyone have any specific experience with this size of trailer and towing parameters. I haven't really seen any specific threads about towing with the Hypertech. Thanks!

Don't plan on keeping your foot in it too long on the hills. I would run on level 1 personally. If you insist on keeping it on level 3 I would consider ordering a new turbo and possibly a new tranny.

I don't think that it will be as devastating as the post above makes it out to be, but I wouldn't tow that much weight on those grades without an egt gauge. The lly's run hotter egts than the lb7's do

EGT gauges are a must when towing! Especially with any type of programmer. JJ

I ran the hypertech on level three all the time. Didn't seem to be a problem, so I thought. Now I'm on my second allison! As long as you don't pull a trailer evreyday you should be fine. I got 40,000 out of the first tranny. Just watch those gauges and be carfeul.

Well I ordered a boost and pyrometer guage, two hole a-pillar mount, and some matching tan paint from the boys at www.dieselperformanceparts.com (http://www.dieselperformanceparts.com) this afternoon. I should have it installed before my trip, so I can monitor the EGT.
Everything was in stock and will be shipped today, so I should have it by mid-week. Total price with 3 day shipping was around $254.

Where are you heading AXE? Mine towes fine with the Hypertech on 3. I have a 33' Jazz, like 8900# empty. I run my Egde on 0 and the Hypertech on 3, just watch your gauges and you will be fine.
I am heading up to Cyclone Lake on the Apache reservation, west of Show Low. A buddy of mine has the lake rented and we will be there for four days. Those lakes are usually some of the best fly fishing around, so I can't wait to drink a few brews and catch some fish. I also can't wait to put the Dmax to the test crawling up the Rim. I have pulled my boat out to Pleasant, but that isn't much of a test.
