I have my truck at the dealer now for the check engine light. I am pretty sure it's due to the cat delete pipe (which i forgot to mention :) ) The glow plug light would not turn off when the motor was cold.

While it's in there I asked for them to check if there is or if I already have the updated code for the PCM (or is it ECM?). Some of you have mentioned that this update helped with the overheating issues.

They are sating they are going to look into it but I have a feeling they are going to end up with "We don't know what that is".

So can any of you that have had this update provide me with some type of data about it? Maybe the full proper name that the dealer would recognize or something i can provide to them to get this taken care of?

Once again I have to do the homework for the dealers since I get the classic "your the first person to have overheating concerns".

Thanks for any help!

A missing cat won't set a code on a diesel, as the cat is not monitered. The dealer did the re-flash on my truck, and I fought with them for 3 months to put the old flash back in because it caused a loss of towing power. A lot of people disagreed with my findings, but less rail pressure=less heat=less power. It all came back with the old flash.

Missing cat can set a code. I can't remember the exact functionality but it has to do with the back pressure affecting the MAF and EGR circuits. The finger stick eliminates the code. There is a lot of info on this site about that.

The glow plug is probably either a bad connector to the glow plug module or a bad module.

Look in the TSB section for the reflash. What dealer is it at?

Looks like my glow plug issue is the module. It will be fixed tomorrow. Only took 3 days to figure that out :(

But he said he now has 10 trucks all with the overheating issue. This is good only because I am not the only one anymore!

Bob Bake Chevy in El Cajon. Their service has been great in the past.

Just seems odd that a few days after teh cat delete pipe I have glow plug issues.

I have a TTS cat back as well and that muffler is the same size/sound as stock. I think it has enough back pressure.

I'm glad you didn't take it to Ron Baker. They suck. I had my glow plug module replaced a while back. It had to do with the SW that is in them I think. Your new module should have a green dot on it. Also the glow plug module problem will throw a CEL and code.
