Does anyone use Biodiesel in their Duramax? If so, give me some feedback on your experience in this particular truck.---Just found the Biodiesel thread.

I do. Make sure you have good fuel. Get some in a sample jar, and look at it. Should not be cloudy.

Where are you getting it?

It runs real nice in the Damx at B80.

I live in Northern California, Humboldt County to be exact. There is a station in Arcata (Footprint Recycling) that I may purchase it through. Excuse my ignorance, I am new at this diesel thing, what is B80?

Biodiesel is usually blended with diesel. B80 would be 80% biodiesel, 20% petrol diesel.

Most stations carry B20, or B100.

It is good for the truck, environent, USA, humans, etc.

Just make sure that it is good quality BD before you put it in the truck. Get some in a clear jar and look at it. Should be clear down into the 40'sF.

Actually most stations in the central US carry only B2-if that. Usually coops have higher percentages, but it has to be purchased in bulk.

Oh....You may be correct.

B2 is pretty piddly. Dont make much sense.

I think I'll run B100 when I have the chance.

is the station listed on biodiesel.org?

I would ask some questions before filling up. What is it made out of? Does it meet ASTM spec?

Are you referring to the additives or the main composition?

There is no real need for additives in BD. I have never heard of anyone adding any either.

Biodiesel can be made from many things.....chicken fats, soybean oil, waste veggie oils, rapeseed, etc, etc. It is good to know where your biodiesel came from, as they tend to have different characteristics.

I believe it to be waste veggie oil because of all the containers behind eating establishments around town with their name on it.

I agree. I may have been making too large of generalization saying central US, but at least Kansas has only one retailer selling more than B2 at the pump. Although where I get my B2 is not listed on biodiesel.org, so there may be spots that are selling it, but not listed.

I finally made the trip from Dallas to San Antonio this past weekend and fueled up with B20 at Willie's station in Carl's Corner both directions. I have a 2005 dmax and I can't say I really noticed any difference. It's the same price as #2 so it can't hurt I guess. I plan to stop in every trip, probably every 6 weeks or so.

They have a B40 and B95 tank that they just installed all at the same price as well. They were both bone dry so I ask the lady behind the counter about them. She said they can't keep up with the demand. Hopefully I can catch a time when there is some B40, a little scared to try the B95 on a low tank.

The only thing that should be real obvious on B20 is the smell. Maybe the truck would run a bit smoother, but it may not be noticeable.

Hell, if it is all the same price, Ide go full boar.

Willie makes the good stuff.

I am not so much worried about the B95 damaging the engine as I am having some kind of warranty issue with GM. The more I think about it though I guess it would depend on the mood I'm in at the time.

One thing I noticed about Willie's station, it's not much to look at but those big shiny new NAPA fuel filters on every pump was sure nice to see. :ro) So any idea what type of Biodiesel Willie uses? Just a mixture I assume?

I am pretty sure that it is virgin soybean made BD. Known for high quality.

I thought about warranty issues, but it would be pretty easy to pump the tank free of BD, and fill it up with diesel and go that route. The service techs at my dship couldnt even figure out how to fix the steering shaft rattle the first time. They surely wouldnt know squat about biodiesel.

I have been using soy biodiesel for at least 15K miles, and have had no problems. I just returned from vacation and put 5K miles on it going to WA and back. I took a barrel of B100 with me and kept refilling a 5 gal jug. I put 5 gal in with each fillup, for a ratio of B16 to B20.

I have been using biodiesel in my '05 Duramax for six months. I have also had to switch back and forth between bio and regular diesel for longer trips with out any side effects. I buy it from DFW Biodiesel in Ft. Worth. Check out their website for more information. I found it very helpful. www.dfwbiodiesel.com
