Got yet another question for all of you. When I first bought the truck, i thought the SSD intake looked like a great deal for 100 bucks so i bought it.

When I mounted it, i questioned to myself how this could be effective with the filter just inches away from the turbo and manifold. The turbo sounded great, and I thought it felt better, until i changed it back to stock and there really is no difference.

Recently while towing about 3k pounds, it got 2 lines above 210 for a very short time. It had a hard time with keeping the temp below 210, mostly lingering around 210 on all hills.

I took the intake off, thinking the engine is sucking air that has to be close to 200 degrees at times, with slow pulls up long hills, not much air is moved under there.

My question is, could that intake contribute to hotter engine temps when sucking such hot air?

I put the stock system back on (it's a 96) with a K&N air filter. It also seems like it smokes less black smoke than before.

Thanks

pulls in air good and all, just causes high egt's by pulling in the hot hot air from motor

Can the hot air being sucked in contribute to a higher engine/water temp?

yes it can its simple, hot air plus combustion equals alot hotter air(exhaust) so the cooler the charge you can jam into the combustion chamber the cooler the exhaust will be on the way out, creating more power, and lower egts inturn not heating the motor up as much

I read somewhere that there is an intake tempature sensor that tells the computer to defuel if excessive heat is present??? Will this be a consideration with the SSD intake? My truck pulled a little 6x10 trailer with 2 motorcycles and a polaris 500 in the bed like a snail up monarch pass with the ssd intake, and temps were getting too high. I was very surprised and now wonder if the intake had something to do with it.

My 3.8L V6 powered Jeep Wrangler automatic on 35" tires pulled the same trailer at the same speed as my 6.5 over Monarch pass. Could the intake have defueled due to intake heat?

In all your opinions, would the stock 96 intake with a K&N be better than the SSD intake?

I pulled the intake for now, back to stock. I don't feel like there is much gain by the SSD.

Thanks!
