: A/C blower not working
lefty2053 06-20-2010, 04:49 PM Ok went to the lake with the boat today and on the way home I needed the A/C on 90 Degrees.
Check the 25 Amp fuses and nothing looks bad. Is there a seperate fuse for just the blower. I did fill cool air blowing through but with no fan on. So the A/C unit turned on. I tried all fan settings and nothing. It worked yesterday afternoon. Any ideas? Thanks as always.
whisky runner 06-20-2010, 04:54 PM does the blower blow on heat or def...if not see if you have volt's at blower motor with a/c on max...then you will know if the motor went out or if maybe in the switch relay or resistor

Funny thing is, when I move the selector back and forth I hear the blower try to turn . At least that is what it seems to be doing. But no it doesn't turn on with heat defrost or A/C. SO do you think it is a relay?
If relay where would that be?
whisky runner 06-20-2010, 06:03 PM the small box on the a/c housing under the hood..the resistor is inside the box..take a jumper and put 12v to the blower and see it it works...sounds like blower mtr. went out if making a noise

Is the blower at the bottom of the vent's. The one with 1 wire to it? I found something that is about 3 1/2" round with one wire in the center of it. I figure that is the blower.
Diaric 06-20-2010, 06:59 PM should be very passenger side of firewall.on engine side. round hub like you described.
lefty2053 06-20-2010, 07:43 PM OK I hooked up my 12V Fishfinder battery to the blower moter. It spun just fine. So I guess it must be the resister inside that box. Does that top part just unhook or is there a trick to it?
lefty2053 06-20-2010, 07:57 PM THANKS again guys you are good. I will see if I can get that cap off that box and posibly replace the resistor.
whisky runner 06-20-2010, 08:37 PM dont replace anything till you are sure what is wrong..that box i think you are talking about is the relay..if its bad you just replace its just a set of points. but you need to start at the blower switch in the dash..make sure has power in and out all three outputs..then work you way down the line..flip on switch and see if power is getting to the relay from the switch.. id have to look at one been awhile since i worked on one but i think the orange wire powers the relay then goes to the resistors but i would really need to look again to be sure of routing and colors.. the switch in the dash goes out more often than the relay or resistors so i would start there..but just a guess

Does that switch just unplug from the back of the dash. I felt it and it seems to be just a rectangle box I could unplug.
whisky runner 06-20-2010, 09:01 PM no you have to remove the control then the switch screws to it..but you should be able to trace a few wires and test them..working under dash's is tough if yer old and not so flexable anymore..if you have a friend have him work the switch while you test out at the relay where its easy to reach...:)
whisky runner 06-20-2010, 09:02 PM i guess you already checked the fuse???

Not only am I getting old but I have had 2 back surgeries and anything upside down will be tuff, but I might be able to have the wife work the switch. Problem there is she knows nothing about cars. I went to the lake today and backup up to pull my boat onto the trailer and applied the emergency brake. Wasn't sure it would hold so I asked her to get in a hold the brake on. That never happened, she didn't know which was the brake and didn't want to mess up by doing something that would include her. I should have just put it in gear and turned it off but I took the chance and all went well. I will look into the switch tomorrow when she gets home to help.
This will be different sence she like the A/C as much as I do.
lefty2053 06-22-2010, 10:10 AM OK I am trying to remove the switch control and there isn't a knob on the front of it. How do I disconnect the controller from the back of the dash? I looked at a diagram on Rock Auto and it looks like it is screwed on. Is that correct? How does one unscrew something from the back of the dash?
bbbadboy 06-22-2010, 11:03 AM Ok, I'm almost dead certain that the AC fuse is a separate circut from the blower motor fuse. There should be another fuse for the blower motor. Need to check that before you gut your truck chasin ghosts. The AC fuse is for the compressor operation and has nothing to do with the blower motor. Good luck.
lefty2053 06-22-2010, 11:18 AM Hurray hurray, I got it fixed. I turned the truck on and turned the blower switch to high. I then started wiggling wires around. Then under the hood I saw this big red wire attached to the blower. Wigged it and it sparked. I tightened it up and the darn thing works again. I was about to go to the junk yard and get a relay and blower switch and try them out when I thought, way would it work one day and not the next. Well I took it on the Grand Mesa the day before which was a rough gravel road. Must have knocked it loose. Or looser since it was pretty loose when I tightened the screw.
Joeairforce 06-22-2010, 11:34 AM Loose wires tend to do that........... Glad ya got it fixed :thumb:
Diaric 06-22-2010, 12:21 PM easy fix
yay
whisky runner 06-22-2010, 06:32 PM thats great..nothing like a easy fix to make ya smile......:)
lefty2053 06-22-2010, 06:48 PM Even the wife was happy. I don't mind driving with the windows down but she doesn't.:):)
