i have a 6.2 engined dodge ram d350 which has developed a starting problem, or perhaps two unrelated starting problems.

when cold it sometimes (only 3 or 4 times in the last 50) starts immediately races and dies, then will not restart.

when hot if i leave it for about 15 mins and then try to start it it will not fire at all, but remove the batteries charge them up and try again when cold it usualy starts.

i have replaced the glow plugs fuel filters, no obvious leaks etc and if i stop it and immediatly start it again it is fine and usualy fine cold except for this occasional racing then dieing problem.

any ideas?

What fuel supply system are you using? Block mounted mechanical lift pump?

To me, it sounds like you might be getting air in the fuel supply, attach a rubber hose to the bleed on the filterbase and run it into a bowl and check for air bubbles, with the engine idling. If you find air in the system, then its coming from Either the supply pump, the tank sender, or the line between.

replaced all the lines and added temp electric pump which leaked then a manual bulb pump before the filters and saw the fuel pump leaking so i guess that is sucking in air which is causing the starting problems any one know where i can buy online and ships to the UK?

sure enough it seems that my mechanical lift pump was at fault and allowing air into the system, my batteries were failing b4 all the air could be purged from cranking! new pump ordered!

Bypass your mechanical pump and just run the electric one until you can find a replacement. Most small block chevy v8 pumps will work in a pinch.;)
