: what type of bed liner will you put in your new 2011
tvfrfireguy 06-17-2010, 11:58 PM My 2011 DRW duramax chevy will be here in the last week in July or first week of August. I'm in my sixties and out of the loop when it comes the the latest and greatest accessories. I pull a big Old Man Box (fifth wheel trailer) and need some stylish mud flaps to save the front of the trailer. I am also going to need some sort of box liner. I don't know one spray in liner over the next. My 03 has a fold a cover but am thinking of getting a extra fuel tank/ tool box and foregoing the fold a cover. I know that all you young guys are a wealth of information on this stuff and would appreciate your input on this stuff and other items such as nerf bars. I can reciprocate with information on things like Social Security, Pepto Bizmol, and velcro shoes as you we be there before you know it. Thanks, Dave
C/K Man 06-18-2010, 12:13 AM I have been happy with Line-X. Rhino Liner is good too, but I think the Line X material is a bit harder. The shop doing the work is important as well, so get references. I wouldn't be surprised in GM offers a factory spray-in liner soon now that both Ford and Dodge do.

Yep, I'm going with Line-X as well. Had it on the rockers of my Sub and it held up just great. I also agree that it won't be long before GM will offer a factory bedliner.
ff603 06-18-2010, 12:47 AM Go Line-x, its a 50K truck, whats an extra $100 to have the best liner installed

LMAO......(you do know what that means right????):D
I would have to agree with the others, go with Line-X. If I end up getting a 2011, I will be putting a Line-X spray-in liner in it.
KevinsDMAX 06-18-2010, 02:35 AM I have a Rhino and have been pleased. Really don't think you could go wrong with either.
If you liked the fold a cover, you should look into one of the roll-a-way covers (similar to a metal roll up door. If you like having your bed, you could wait a little for a replacement fuel tank, the current aftermarket one will they offer will hold 52 gallons. I know that it isn't as large as the external, but why would one want to carry that much extra weight?
For mud flaps, I would go with dura flaps (sponsors here). You tell them what you want, and they'll do it!
My two cents

motovet 06-18-2010, 03:45 AM Line-X and Duraflaps. The best for the best.
dub1686 06-18-2010, 04:23 AM Had Line X in my last two trucks. Good stuff! Only complaint, that it fades a little. But I think they all do.
Ted White 06-18-2010, 10:37 PM I too have had Line-X in my last two trucks, a 2007 2500HD and the present 2008 3500 HD. When my 2011 arrives I'll do Line-X again.
I ask the Line-X guy to run the Line-X coating over the lip of the box and down about two inches so that when I stand on the Dee Zee running board to pull the hitch handle my belt buckle doesn't scratch the paint.
DarthDiesel 06-18-2010, 10:46 PM 3 trucks with Line-x, all others are crap. Newest one is Linex Xtra, definitely way to go, Xtra prevents the liner from fading and looks better.
tvfrfireguy 06-19-2010, 01:04 AM I have a Rhino and have been pleased. Really don't think you could go wrong with either.

Kevin: I want the external fuel tank for our annual migration to the desert southwest. Having to stop every 350 miles for fuel and sitting in lines eight and nine deep at the flying J really bum this old guy out. Some of these folks aren't the swiftest and the self serve island. As far as weight, that's why I am getting the DRW. My old man box weighs about 15,500 lbs. and this new truck wouldn't even notice another 100 gal tank. As far as those rollup covers go they kind of shoot my extra 100 gal tank idea down. So far, you guys are giving me some good food for thought. What about the nerf bars. My last ones were Nafsta or something like that. The one at the dealers are sharp but would have to pull a bank job to get those. Dave
chevyguy71 06-19-2010, 04:55 PM I have the oval steps from the dealer and I love them easy to put on and I even had the line-x guy say they where better then some of the ones he sells.
Coolbreeze 06-20-2010, 10:47 AM I would go with a Herculiner if your up to doing it yourself. You only need a little coating and folks are drastically kidding themselves if you think it prevents your bed from rotting out. Rotting of beds, bumpers just about anything comes from underneath and up. Dirt gets there which holds moisture and that is how you get rot.
Line-x looks lovely but $500---- I don't think so. I have my crappy plastic bed liner that came with the truck.
TrevorD 06-20-2010, 10:59 AM My current liner is a Permatex, and it'll be the last. It is too soft and will nick and peel easily. I have the spray-in liner and a GM rubber bed mat over it. I carry a lot of engine blocks, and the sharp corners will tear it up. I did have a Rhino liner in a previous truck, and it was awesome. It did not have any issues with nicking/tearing. My Rhino dealer is gone, though, so the next one will be a Line-X. I am willing to pay more money for a liner if it can hold up to my daily abuse. If you rarely haul a lot of stuff in the bed, I can see it being harder to justify.
As for the nerf bars, I like the power folding ones from the dealer. But, I agree that you'll have to rob someone to get a set. It's hard to justify their price when you can buy a non-retractable set for less than half the money!
KevinsDMAX 06-20-2010, 02:16 PM I went with Westin Platinum Wheel-to-Wheel. After five years, the power coating pealed up (about 1 inch circle by the drivers step). Called Westin and they asked for pictures of the damage, step showing Westin Platinum and my receipt. Four weeks later I had a box from UPS with a new set of step bars.
I believe that the n-Fab bars really look good, but only really give you one place to step.
If you do go with the external fuel/tool box, Wheel-to-Wheel are the only way to go.
Quiky One 06-20-2010, 03:45 PM Line-x!
sokoservices 07-07-2010, 07:34 PM What are people paying for the linex for a CCSB over the rail? I am looking at geting my 2010 2500hd CCSB LMM done next week. Just didnt know what I would be out for that!...
Thanks

DarthDiesel 07-07-2010, 08:27 PM My linex extra was just short of 7 bills with tax.
motovet 07-07-2010, 09:01 PM One thing to consider when buying a new rig is to work the Line-X in with the deal...as in free. Dealers doing volume get a much better deal than the individual ever could, so a good way to save $500. My last three Line-X cost me nothing...just make sure to get the numbers straight before you mention a Line-x must be included also....

TrevorD 07-07-2010, 11:22 PM I can assure you it'll be a cold day down below before I pay $700 for a bed liner! I'll roll white trash with my $300 liner again if it's that much. I can have a spray-in AND a bed mat over it with $300 left.

$55k truck and you're willing to compromise on quality over $300 total...not meaning to be rude but that's false economy there brah...
Line-X for me, always over the rails...can get it for about $500 on the 6.5foot beds and that's socal prices...

snocrossgod 07-10-2010, 11:06 PM Check out a Reflex Spray-on Liner. I have one in my 02. Duramax it doesn't fade like Line-X and Rhino. Plus it protects your cargo and your cargo doesn't slide around. Check our reflextruckliners.com

I went to the web site and it looks good but know of no one who has used this product. I tried to locate a dealer but they want you to give them your name a phone number and contact you later. That seems odd to me. Anyone else use reflex?
rustyshakelford 07-10-2010, 11:48 PM i just had a toff bedliner sprayed in my truck last week. for just the bed and over the rails, it was $325. i had him spray my tool box/fuel tank combo and remove the old bedliner so it would match. The total out the door was $500 for everything. I really like it so far and would recommend it to anyone. the shop said to come back in a year and a half for a conditioner that will make it look new. The shop and brand is the one that does alot of the dealerships and accessory places in the north houston area

I agree, Spend 58k on a truck and skimp on a bedliner? No sense.
To clarify I have the LineX Xtra. The base LineX here is $550 for for over the rails.
The Xtra is an additional coating impregnated with Kevlar which keeps its shine and prevents the liner from fading. and it adds 175 bucks to the price.
KevinsDMAX 07-11-2010, 02:32 AM I think that paying for quality is important...But really how long would it take to wear out the $350 bed liner. My guess five to six years. My recommendation is to go with the cheapest as long as it has a life time warranty.
I had reflex installed in Nov 04. It lasted great until Aug 09, when I began to see the truck bed through the liner. I called and they didn't have reflex dealer in my local area, so the paid $395 to get a Rhino liner installed.
So I now have a Rhino liner, which I might add also has a lifetime warranty, and I'm still 350 ahead of the game compared to the Line X.

Ahead of the game compared to Linex?, so lets figure the economics of your logic......
First bedliner $350
Second bedliner $395
Total = $745
$745 does not include your time searching for new liner, downtime for you and your truck for the second install.
Penny wise and dollar foolish.
I paid just under $700 for my Linex Xtra, I have had 3 LineX liners on 3 GMCs, never wore one out. Do it right the first time.
Bavanew 07-11-2010, 02:06 PM I had the standard plastic box liner installed in my 2001 LB7 when I first bought it. It was very durable, but it looked like hell in 2006, therefore I replaced it before I sold it. When I removed it from the box of the truck, my eyeballs almost popped out of skull (not literally).
Sand, dust, leaves, moisture, etc, had slowly accumulated between the liner and the box, and with all the vibration caused by driving on rought roads, the liner basically sanded down all the paint right down to the metal. Nothing rotted, but there was plenty of surface rust. (Not impressed!)
When I bought my 2006 LBZ, I installed a bed rug liner, and for what I use my truck for, it works great! It's obviously not as durable a as Line-X or any of those spray on liners, but as far as protecting your box is concerned, it does the job! It doesn't move around, it doesn't scratch the box, and it's nice on the knees if you have to get in the box. If I put something with sharp edges in the box, I slide a sheet of plywood over the bedrug first.
I'm in the market for a 2011 LML, or even the new Scorpion, not sure yet... Whichever, I think I'll go with Line-x and even a bedrug on top of it for a nice finish look. Maybe it sounds like overkill to some, but like someone else said, for a 55k+ plus investment, I'm not going to cheap out on the one thing that receives the most abuse.
If you go with line-x, make sure that you get it installed by a reputable outfit. A buddy of mine had Line-X installed in his truck, but they didn't prep the box properly, therefore the coating did not adhere to the surface of the box, and needless to say, condensation had formed between the box and the Line-X.
Good luck!

I didn't pay for the second bedliner. Reflex did because of the "LIFETIME WARRANTY", thats why I said buy the cheapest that has a lifetime warranty.
I just saying DD, really how long have you had your truck, or how long did you have the one before? I see many people on this site who trade out trucks like I do underwear, and if that's the case why spend more than you really need to.

sokoservices 07-14-2010, 11:13 AM What do people think about the Rhino liners?
KevinsDMAX 07-14-2010, 02:13 PM I have it in mine, and it's tuff as nails, but my cargo moves around alot. This isn't always a bad thing...when you are unloading cattle feed, you are glad it slides easily out.
Kevin
duramaximizer 07-14-2010, 10:34 PM I have seen them all chip and peel. LineX seems to look better longer than the Rhino Liner both 8 years old. I have a buddy with a Reflex brand liner and it still looks like new after 4 years with no fade and no chips, but he never uses it. So whatever... the reflex seems to hold up good on my buddies atv front bumpers and racks, and those do get abused.
I say any of those 3 would be good. I would go with the one with the best price. JMO
wynot 07-15-2010, 05:11 PM LineX for my 07 pulling a 5th wheel. Put it in before the hitch... whether it is better or worse than others I don't know (or care), it works for me. Looks good, and holds up well.
I have a 52 gal Titan Tank which gives me the extra capacity and fits where the original tank did. Despite the annoyance of the DIC range being wacky, it works quite well. I can run about 650 miles towing my 5th wheel between fillups, which allows me to fill up without the 5er being attached if I choose to do so.
I have Luverne wheel to wheel running boards. Stainless about 8 inches wide. Allows me to get to the front of the bed easily, won't rust, and is wide enough to easily use without planning your steps...

I would have to agree with the others, go with Line-X. If I end up getting a 2011, I will be putting a Line-X spray-in liner in it.
It's me, Dave the social security, peptol bizmol expert. Here is what an old man is doing. My Bakflip cover was delivered today. After I install it, I am going to order the bed rug from GMpartsdirect.com. When you become aged, this getting down on your knees is painful. Being retired and old means I won't be hauling units of plywood or bags of saccrete so why spent the bucks on something thats going to wear holes in the knees of my powder blue jump suit. The only glitch I can see in my plan is the velcro in my shoes may grab the bedrug holding me fast to the bed. I would then probably need to dial 911 to get freed but who knows if I will be able to make out those small numbers on the key pad.

colt49 10-20-2010, 08:39 PM I put 2 rubber trailer mats in the bed that have the wire in them. Heavy and durable when I clean it just throw them out and do it. They can stay in for most washes the air blows under them driving so that's easy. Also have a floor mat with 12''x12'' inch squares that dairy parlors use for mats has holes in it for wash outs. Those are better yet in my sight. You can buy the squares in various colors at Dairy Equipment stores or websites. Just snap together and roll up easy too. Similar to machine shop mats etc. Alternative bed protection farm style.......
. I can reciprocate with information on things like Social Security, Pepto Bizmol, and velcro shoes as you we be there before you know it. Thanks, Dave
That's funny stuff.
I have been real happy with two Line-X sprayed in bedliners. I also like the clean look and durability of them. Generally, Arma Coatings and Rhino Linings will make you happy too.
I agree with others, make sure to get some references and make sure the guy doing the prep work and spraying ain't the new guy. Once it's on it ain't coming off real easy. The last guy that did my Line X got some overspray on my truck and the dealer wanted me to schedule an appointment and leave the truck there again to get it off. I told him to get bent (as he already had it a full day) and pulled out a Mother's clay bar and removed the overspray relatively easily.
Out!

We have the bed rug and really like it. When the 2011 comes in it will get one also; and GM is very competitive on the pricing from what I have seen only about $20 more than the discounters.
Another thing I really like about the bed rug is that if you use the Super Glide Super Rails when the hitch is removed you cannot see holes in the bed because the rug fills back in where the pins go through----trick and looks great.

bigman55434 10-26-2010, 05:52 PM Line-X spray in bedliner, over the rails. I have had the dealer get this done pre-delivery on my last 5 trucks, and never once had a problem with chipping, fading, cracking, etc. The material they spray in is as tough as nails, and does not affect clearances for things like a tonneau cover, topper, etc. Over the rail is usually about $599 with a lifetime warranty.
