Hi guys Im new to this site. I would like to try and find some help for a problem Im having. 2004 workhorse 6.5L nomaly asperated (nonturbo) no egr. Its has black smoke under load and dtc's p0216, and p1216.
318k miles
vin Y
normal pump fuel

Took care of basic stuff.
1) fuel filter, air filter replaced
2) replaced rubber fuel lines
3) replaced T stat engine was only getting up to 168 deg. Now 185 to 195
4) lift pump is operating properly

Are you sure it is a 2004? IIRC, GM stop putting 6.5L in 2001 trucks. Suburban in 1999 or 2000.

Looks like you get some IP codes. If LP is operating properly, then that is good. How did you determine that LP runs properly?

As a first aid, you can put 2 stroke oil to see if the code goes away.

The best way to level set all of us is to do the diagnostic on the sticky under the FAQ.

It is a 2004, BUT as a workhorse. The chassi is more like a 1998 or 2000. On the Tech2 only 2000 settings will work to get data. That is most of my problem Alldata only shows trucks that are turbo. This has none.
I ran the diagnostics for the codes and for p1216 found poor connection at fuel shut off solenoid. One down I hope
But Im stuck on p0216 timing. The stepper motor ohms good. But my timing is at 13.0 desired and 13.0 actual and tdc 2.8 deg . The specs I found for a turbo is 3.5-3.7 and 1.8 tdc. the engine runs good it just has black smoke on a load and these codes. So Im just not sure if the specs are the same for this 6.5L as they are for the turbo 6.5????
